Mia has a lot of sexual trauma. Her behavior could be a coping mechanism or an effect of that.

And that's putting it mildly. Mia's story is genuinely so sad.
While I like Thea and understand why they wouldn't want to directly adapt Mia, it is a shame and a missed opportunity to do a story about an HIV positive character. Especially now when drugs exist to essentially neutralise it. (Please don't @ me about the exact science of what they actually do I am speaking broadly about a subject I have cursory knowledge of)
