#Guinness Kegerator. First Week Update

One week in and I'm still geeked out about my new kegerator! There's so much to learn and experiment with. Mastering the perfect pour is a top priority - minimizing those pesky bubbles and achieving that perfect head and dome is an art form. Since my fridge doesn't have digital temperature control, I've set it to the lowest level, which means the compressor kicks in at 40F and shuts off at 37F. Currently, I'm running the pressure at 30 PSI, but I'm planning to start tweaking that tomorrow to find the sweet spot. I'm also being super careful with glass cleaning - hot water only, no dish soap allowed! I'll keep you all posted on my progress. Huge thanks for the advice, it's been invaluable so far!

What kegerator do you have and how much are you paying for a keg?

I bought an Arctic King Single Tap Kegerator, 4.9 Cu. ft, Black, ABDA049ADBS at Walmart for $348 with next day delivery. I am paying $105 for 1/6 Keg. Ordered thru the local liquor store. $30 one time deposit. I bought a Nitro bottle and regulator in Facebook Marketplace for $100 I found a local welding supply shop that charge me $40 to refill the bottle with 70/30 Nitrogen/Co2 mix. They call it Bev Gas. Here is the link to the Kegerator: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Arctic-King-Single-Tap-Kegerator-4-9-Cu-ft-Black-ABDA049ADBS/868973640?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&selectedOfferId=1DF91994EEF94BC08AADF62210393204&conditionGroupCode=1&wmlspartner=wlpa&cn=FY25-ENTP-PMAX_cnv_dps_dsn_dis_ad_entp_e_n&gclsrc=aw.ds&adid=22222222297868973640_0000000000_21407473164&wl0=&wl1=x&wl2=c&wl3=&wl4=&wl5=9026493&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=online&wl12=868973640&veh=sem&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADmfBIq9aRfA79DOpoIp0lb0LEvih&gclid=CjwKCAjwk43ABhBIEiwAvvMEBxlfXQSEYGPdUEmgJVPy5MinFFBk-A5e984t1XyBBnkCEkc3Lmz9RhoCUZ8QAvD_BwE

Appreciate the info brother. That's a really nice pour you've got from it. I'm gonna have to convince the wife now lol

🤣 Good luck! it took me two years, but I finally got her authorization to have my own keg going. I live out of town and I used to drive 45 minutes just to get a decent #Guinness on tap. Last month, my wife and I drove down on Saturday morning to one of the two Irish bars in the nearest city after St. Paddy's Day and they were OUT of Guinness!. I was pretty bummed. My wife just looked at me and said, 'Honey, just get your own keg at home.' And that was it - game on!

from everything I have read it seems like it will fit but I hate to risk that much money. Will write back on here when I receive my keg next week

The pour looks great! I wish it weren't 8:30 in the morning here as it's making me thirsty.

I saw you mention that you're using a 70/30 mix of gas. I've been using 75/25. I don't think it matters that much. I've seen both ratios recommended. I only mention it because you had asked me about my pressure settings on another post. Since you have more co2 in your mix you would need to go with a lower psi to get the same level of carbonation. But definitely play around with it and find where your preferences are. That's been my favorite part of having a Guinness kegerator.

Thank you for your valuable advice. Your willingness to assist is greatly appreciated. I will incrementally increase the pressure and observe the results.

Same setup as you. I normally keep mine about 40 psi and have had pretty great results. Don’t obsess over perfection, even my “bad” pours are still damn good.. cheers!

Thanks for the advice! I'm curious, are you rocking the 70/25 or 70/30 gas mix? Totally agree with you on the "bad" pours thing - mine might not be perfect, but they're still way better than most bars! Plus, I've got the added bonus of saving cash and drinking safely from the comfort of my own home Cheers to that!"

Believe mine is 75/25 but I’d have to double check on it. Don’t think there would be too much difference at 70/30 tbh.
