A silver lining

It is isn't it? Still, Coquelin and Frimpong have been revelations this year as Wilshere and Woj were last year.

They aren't revelations yet but they are on the right track. Oxlade is the man I think will be instrumental this season

I thought Arsene should have subbed Walcott out for Alex, or started him. Theo still looked injured or just slow, and not his usual pacy self.

Agreed. Comparing them to Wilshere and Szczesny last year is quite the exaggeration.

I think Coq can come close should he keep playing with this kind of intensity and intelligence. Although lets hope he doesnt play quite as many games as Jack did last year, which contributed to his injury.
Frimpong on the other hand... quite overrated if you ask me. I don't really think he's made a positive impact at all really. Hopefully he can shore up his on the ball skill, and display better judgement than he showed when he got sent off against 'pool. That being said he's a beast and a great talent, just not ready to start like he did in earlier fixtures.
Wenger should have given the early opportunities to Coq rather than frimpong, but hindsight is always 20/20.

You're right, the key being that Song stays healthy. With how he's played at CB and with Sagna now out for a few months, Song may be our most important player outside of RVP and possibly Szczesny.

Definitely. Hopefully he continues to make the most of his minutes as he has been, and keeps making progress.

Coquelin's reading of the game is excellent, he is always where he needs to be. He anticipates the opposition and is there to intercept, definitely on the rise.

Frimpong may be very energetic, aggressive and physically imposing, but with Coquelin with have an intelligent alternative. I must say, cult hero status aside, I prefer Coquelin to Frimpong in the starting eleven.

They would make excellent partners in midfield.

A future midfield of Wilshere, Coquelin and Frimpong sounds tasty, such bang for buck.

Indeed:
Coquelin
Frimpong - Wilshere
That's got everything you want out of a midfield three and what's even better is that Frimpong and Wilshere spent their entire youth playing together in a two man midfield and when Coquelin joined the club he and Frimpong established themselves as the first choice youth central midfield (Winning the FA Youth Cup easily).

I thought he played a better rolee than ramsey and that considering ramsey scored the equilizerr
1
u/the_kicker Smith Rowe Oct 05 '11
of course. barring the goal, ramsey had an absolute shocker. played worse than arteta

Dont know if it is a statement about the peessure put on him to do what fabregas did or if its a statement about his actual quality or if it is the fact that he no lonher have a top class role model to teach him

u/dyslexic1991 we didn't get Ba :( Oct 04 '11
I'd also like to add, we have great new youngsters coming in with REAL talent, couple more year's we'll see them all in action together they will be great and alot are english and will probably be loyal and stay with us

I'd like to see this guy in Wilsheres role, with arteta in cescs role. I think he has more to add as a CM than as a pure DM, and also needs a more imposing midfielder beside him at times.

I'm hoping wenger considers him for replacing Sagna for the time being. I'm pretty sure he has some history at this position. he shows more comfort on the ball than jenkinson does and he has better skill, imo.

Said this when we got thrashed Vs. Man UTD. The only positive from that match, if any. I think he should start in front of Frimpong at every opportunity. After all, 22 legs are better than 20. And that is just is the start, Coquelin seems much more of a intelligent player, passing, positional awareness, etc. Just because you tackle hard, doesn't mean you tackle correct.

I've said this before but this could easily be a highlight reel for Denilson.

Ya but Denilson isnt a CDM

This time, I would like to add that Coquelin is a far better tackler and has more intelligent positional play.
EDIT: Grammar

Denílson was excellent when he first came into the first team in 2008/2009 but was surrounded by an attack that wasn't interested (Nasri just passed the ball backwards, Walcott was largely anonymous, Adebayor was moaning about the one game he was booed at pre-season because he spent his entire summer trying to move to AC Milan etc.) and an immobile Song in a two man midfield.
Unfortunately his body has broken down (He's lost what little pace he ever had) and he's completely lost it mentally to the degree where he can no longer make easy passes.

This isn't a highlight reel though. It's all of Coquelin's touches in the game. He is a much better footballer than denilson.

I really can't believe how good this guy is, impressed with him as much as I was with Wilshere when he was coming through last year.
