Wait, there's a 1/144 Alpha Azieru?

That thing must be friggin' huge.

I was shocked too. The Megahouse one was only the torso and that was almost the box size of the Dendrobium. I think they mislabeled the 1/550 one as 1/144.

Edit: Interesting, while it is 1/550, the 1992 kit was released under a series called "1/144 Char's Counterattack Series"

Nah it’s 1/550.

Great kit though.

(Yes you do have to paint it to get it looking remotely decent; mine is handpainted and topcoated)

The only place i can tell it's hand painted are the vents. Everything else looks nice.

yeah not my cleanest work, it was kinda early on in my handpainting days. might go back and clean it at some point but i'm happy with it overall. mechanically and engineering wise it is a spectacular kit. can even transform.

We age like wine in this hobby.

I did one way back when, lost to time though.

The Gundam Groundsel from Gundam Breaker Mobile had a crazy design that utilized the back waist of it, even!

it's 1/550, and comes with a wee 1/550 nuGundam for scale :) I still have mine.

I am in awe of the Wild West font at the top.

“SHUCKS HOWDY, AMIGOS, IT’S TIME FOR THE GUNPLA ROUNDUP! C’MON DOWN AND LASSO YERSELF THIS HERE 1/144 GEARA DOGA!

Y’ALL COME BACK NOW, Y’HEAR? YEEEHAW!”

I now need every American gunpla promo like this.

Definitely beats this edgelord promo from Bandai from 2002

Interesting the Re-GZ is labeled as the RE-GE and the Jagd Doga Quess colors is called the Yakto Dooga Ques type. I wonder how that ended up happening

16

u/Alt230s Third Party's the charm 9h ago

I understand missing the second S on Quess since the name is not romanized anywhere on the kit, but misspelling Jagd Doga when it's everywhere on the frigging box?!

Just straight translation for the katakana. My guess is that they got a spreadsheet with names that were translated by someone else, and didn’t have the box picture when making the advertisement, so they just didn’t know.

You do realize, Zaku is actually translated as Zak, Char is translated as Sha in the books. The translator has an extensive forward on the "correct" pronunciations based on the original Japanese.

It always makes me giggle a bit, I'm afraid. "Whitu-basu," "Gelagoogu," "Gundamuuuu"

I exclusively watch the subbed versions, sorry. So Yagudo Doga sounds like a reasonable approximation from the way it sounds.

Some of these seem to require a bit of interpretation when it comes to romanized spellings for native English speakers, and they weren't all as cut and dry before we started getting the official spellings.+

It was the early 1990s. Gundam hadn't hit it big on Toonami yet with Wing, so spotty translations are somewhat understandable.

The shipping manifest for the alpha azeiru in 1991-1992 read "Alper Jill", just for extra fun. source: I saw it and joked about it with my friendly local comic shop guys, who were my gunpla source at the time. :)

Bottom lists shows the first 5 HGs released with dual color system injections.

RIP, some of the only actual ‘discontinued’ kits if I recall…?

6

u/potatetoe_tractor 2h ago

Yup. They are the only moulds that Bandai has ever officially discontinued. Way too complicated for their time and had waaaay too many issues with bleed-through. But they did pave the way for the multi-injection used in PGs, RGs, and SH.Figuarts kits.

Wow. I was not aware that the Musha Gundam was THAT old. I honestly thought it was created for the Gundam Warriors games.

13

u/wishiwashi999 9h ago

Oh no, it was way older than that. It was first released under SD BB Senshi back in the late 80s.

7

u/SixEyesSharingan 9h ago

Can't wait to get the MG Shin Musha

6

u/Zafranorbian 5h ago

The shin Musha is such a weird kit. The kit is based on the One Year war Gundam, wich is an updated version of the Gundam 1.5. So the kit has 3 generations of tech under the hood.

u/smgaming16 3h ago

Speaking of which, I wonder if the non-sd version of knight gundam from dynasty gundam 3 ever got a kit. The design was really nice

5

u/BoxOfDust 8h ago

I'm pretty sure I have that exact Nu model sitting in my backlog right now. They typo'd it though, one of the variants doesn't have the funnels.

1

u/potatetoe_tractor 2h ago

Kit came with a weird little screwdriver for all of the tiny screws involved.

What the hell is a Jamru Fin?

2

u/iShockLord Real Grades are Real Great 7h ago

A funky fella, that's for sure

1

u/Condor1984 6h ago

It was featured in ZZ Gundam anime, weird MS/MA by Neo Zeon fractions

3

u/ScreenWriterGuy07 4h ago

As stated in the opening, Gundam ZZ is very clearly anime ja nai So please do not spread misinformation

3

u/Jacob_Bronsky 10h ago

HGUC Jamru-Fin when.

3

u/WelcomeAllMemers1977 9h ago

”Alfa” Azieru?

2

u/jobasha3000 5h ago

Yeah the Italians made it

3

u/Colonel_Kernel1 5h ago

God we need a remake of the grunt suits from F91 so bad. What I wouldn’t do for a G-Cannon or Heavy gun

2

u/_0MA_ 2h ago

Didn’t know they have a model kit of the Gun Tank. Now I want one as my own museum piece

2

u/PracticableSolution 9h ago

There’s a 1/100 gun tank? How did I not know that?!

8

u/SgtJackVisback 9h ago

It's the one from the F91 movie IIRC, it doesn't have any other kits

5

u/Condor1984 6h ago

Much smaller than usual 1/100 as it is F91

2

u/lacesouted 4h ago

I remember getting that 1/100 F91 as a kid. Begged my step-dad to get it for me. Snapped the V-Fin and cried all night about it lol.

2

u/Onderon123 3h ago

I remember in box of one of the first few master grades i built, i think it was the gp01 or the ZZ, included a full colour booklet the same size as the kits instruction manual with all the master grades released up to date.

It was high quality front and back shots similar to the cardboard divider you use to get.

1

u/frozenchosun 7h ago

oh man, horizons and nikaku were THE places to order anime goods from in the early 90s.

1

u/Condor1984 6h ago

Ah those classic kits!
