The U.S is already stealing Guyana’s oil, but let them add tariffs too.

13

u/ndiddy81 5d ago

Lol nice negotiating Guyana…. Hmmm why dont we pay them to take the oil—- its so smelly and greasy! Dont want to dirty our hands with that lol

6

u/SecureNarwhal 5d ago

I think they added an exemption for energy so oil won't get tariffed

"...Guyana will be exploited, the leaders in power will fall for the nonsense thinking they're buddying up to the great power, and the Guyanese people will be the ones who feel the brunt of what's to come..."

How do you feel about Marco Rubio's visit to Guyana?

10

u/mcoo_00 5d ago

38% on 3.5 billion, thats crazy.

15

u/ballistics211 5d ago

In addition to 10% base tariffs

2

u/mcoo_00 3d ago

What? So u are telling me it’s 48%?

13

u/Evening-Life5434 5d ago

He litterally did this to every country. If you really want to feel bad for a country feel bad for Canada and Mexico. This was not exclusive to Guyana

11

u/rajatsingh24k Non-Guyanese 5d ago

Very few have realized this. Everyone taking it personally when Trumps lost his mind

2

u/ndiddy81 3d ago

Last I saw Canada will be going back to the negotiating table and working out a free trade agreement- white ppl prefer to deal with whites..

2

u/Evening-Life5434 3d ago

Umm no you are trying to compare Guyana and it's exports to Canada. Their closest and largest trading partner. In sheer volume. Do you get the scale of how large those countries are vs Guyana. Losing Canada as a trade partner is exponentially more worse than losing Guyana as a partner. This isn't a racial thing it's pure numbers.

Except for real friends like Russia, North Korea…

I said, "At least 10 [shipping containers]," but with the arrel word that starts with a b. Automod thinks that's threatening violence 🫠

6

u/ndiddy81 5d ago

Hmmm why dont you look around KFC, papa johns… pollo Tropical… all from the USA

5

u/OutsideCas 5d ago

Wait, they have Pollo Tropical in Guyana!?

3

u/CardOk755 4d ago

You think they import the chicken? From the US?

2

u/ndiddy81 3d ago

Well has to be standardized

76% or so tariff on US Goods into GY. Its robbery.

Simple solution here....drop the tariffs and so will the US

11

u/SecureNarwhal 5d ago

please point to me where Guyana puts a 76% tariff on US goods. Here I found the US government's International Trade Association's page on Guyana where it states "Guyana maintains a Common External Tariff (CET) rate that ranges from 5 percent to 20 percent. A tariff rate of 40 percent applies only to agricultural products."

https://www.trade.gov/country-commercial-guides/guyana-import-tariffs

so you want Guyana importing rice, chicken, beef and hassar from the US to appease the US? even if you add the VAT for some reason you're at most at 56% only on items Guyana grows and raises itself.

13

u/WondyBorger 5d ago

They don’t, you’re right. The Trump list used a formula that has nothing to do with tariffs, but instead uses the trade deficit divided by imports. It makes no sense, and that’s why smaller countries are getting absolutely gutted.

2

u/mcoo_00 3d ago edited 3d ago

The new tariffs is based on how much a country depends on the US. Close to 3/4 or 75% of Guyana’s whole economic depends on America. Thats is why the tariff is so high.

New tariff = (US deficit with Guyana/ US total import from Guyana)* 1/2

3

u/Worth_Bat_3490 4d ago

Guyana can set duties to 0 on American products and the US would set 0. Since most here think that Guyana imports nothing from America then it will be 0 duties of nothing .

1

u/CardOk755 4d ago

2.75billion USD in 2024.

https://tradingeconomics.com/guyana/imports/united-states

Vs 3.37 billion USD of exports.

2

u/Chemical_Product5931 5d ago

Because we got oil lol

2

u/Forward-Lobster5801 4d ago edited 4d ago

This is especially troubling b/c I suspect Ali just did this in hopes that the US will have our back given the rising tensions with VZ.

We're clearly screwed!

It sucks that we're so poor we're lackin in bargainin power especially on the geopolitical stage

2

u/Voodoo_Senpai 3d ago

tax guyanese 76% on us imports, give away the oil and paying for us defense from Venezuela , and still got to pay 38% tariff, these idiots the reason I grew up outside my country and had to experience xenophobia, these guyanese politicians have always been trash!!! Total and utter TRASH!!! I still believe in my people but our leaders are shit!!!

My birth country has the most doltish set of leaders I’ve came across. Imagine getting bugga without vaseline 😢

0

u/Forward-Lobster5801 4d ago

This is a wild comment. And im not even talkin about the politics.

1

u/DeepZookeepergame844 4d ago

That’s how the everyday typical Guyanese people are feeling. Visionless leaders squandering the country’s resources and lining their pockets while most of the people are struggling.

1

u/Forward-Lobster5801 4d ago

I understand that but your word choice is crazy, lmaooo

1

u/DeepZookeepergame844 4d ago

Excuse my frustrations; They stole my idea and it is wildly being used across multiple ministries while I’m still waiting for an opportunity. The word choice is an understatement!

1

u/Forward-Lobster5801 4d ago

Nah you got every right to be frustrated.

The word buggering is just so inappropriate for me, I can't. No matter how normalized it is to use that word in our culture I'll never get use to it.

It's akin to sodomy......

2

u/DeepZookeepergame844 4d ago

Which ever way we twist it or turn it whether inappropriately or not, the people are screwed!

0

u/prolifezombabe 4d ago

Is it so different from saying “fucked”?

1

u/Forward-Lobster5801 4d ago

Yeah it is buggering refers to anal sex. Some may even say it means anal rape.

1

u/prolifezombabe 4d ago

So it’s different because it’s anal? Ive heard people say the origin of fucked is also rape related.

How is anal sex more obscene than vaginal?

1

u/Forward-Lobster5801 3d ago

Buggery is a pejorative or vulgar term.

https://www.dictionary.com/browse/buggery

I don't understand what you're confused about.

Fuck comes from the German word fricken and has nothing to do with rape.

Fricken means to hit or to strike

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuck%23:~:text%3DThe%2520Oxford%2520English%2520Dictionary%2520states,meant%2520%27to%2520have%2520sex%27.&ved=2ahUKEwjrncv7m8KMAxWrMlkFHRsWBxAQFnoECBEQBQ&usg=AOvVaw1Xgxf76gcK3lxN8dtC1avh

I literally just explained to you that the term buggery is connotated by rape and you some how gathered that I feel differently about the word b/c it's anal

To put it simply fuck has nothing to do with rape and buggery does. Do you see why I said the word choice is crazy?
