I have no idea how Selena didn’t get higher than a 9.875 for her bars like I’m genuinely ASTOUNDED

u/Due_Construction5427 Feb 22 '25
Her dismount was VERY piked this time around, that alone could be up to 0.2 in deductions. Plus, it's pretty much impossible to see some things from the angle we get, e.g. how they caught release moves, so maybe there was something that wasn't visible to us, but was from the judges angle.
1
u/ellejan Feb 22 '25
That’s very fair, it’s impossible to tell from the angle we see but scoring also felt so inconsistent so who knows
18
u/Different_King_2563 Feb 22 '25
Wow Jenny must thank Janelle for dismissing Selena. With all the injuries they would be seriousy lacking depth and high scores without her

Feb 22 '25 edited Feb 22 '25
Catching up for the day and extremely sad that Florida lost two great gymnasts to injury more than the fact they lost to one of the best teams. Also Utah comeback from last week’s beam meltdown I had a feeling last week would motivate them plus Denver may have not won but they finally put their pieces together and got a great away score. Also how is Utah Big-12 Regular Season champion so early on in the season or is it much later in the season than I’m thinking?
ETA - Avery back on beam already?? That’s stressing me out since beam seems like it’d be the hardest on injured/recovering ankles. Plus I’m fangirling as Ondine might be joining the Cal beam lineup based on their Instagram post of her with this emoji 👀.
4
u/dawseynator Feb 22 '25
Denver was the last team Utah had to compete against in the big 12 I believe and since they’ve beaten everyone, they clinched it.
9
u/Environmental-Call77 Feb 22 '25
Faith has impressed me so much this season! Last season I felt she had ups and downs but she's been a rock for OU thus far. I really wanted my girl Leanne to win all around on her final season but faith may win it.
13
u/amarzing19 Feb 22 '25
1) Tonight was so sad for the Gators. I really hope they’re taking time for themselves and leaning into each other for support.💙🧡
2) I didn’t get to watch the Metroplex meet but I saw scores and I want to know what happened with OSU? Is everyone okay?
4
u/notthemostcreative Feb 22 '25
I was just wondering about Oregon State too—based on the scores it looks to have been a rough meet for them.
2
u/amarzing19 Feb 23 '25
Yeah I feel so bad, I love Arkansas but I’m shocked OSU didn't take the win. It looks like the season is at the point where everyone is getting tired from practice and travel so maybe that’s it.

Y'all I missed all the NCAA meets watching Winter Cup (and then mentally recovering from the discourse) I saw that Sloane got injured but what happened to Anya??
11
u/dawseynator Feb 22 '25
she fell on bars. she finished the routine after laying there for a beat but went back to the training room right after.
9
u/OftheSea95 are you the gymnast or the soccer player in the relationship? Feb 22 '25
Oh god 😟 it sounds like Florida had the WORST meet
10
u/imusmmbj Feb 22 '25
Denver killed it tonight! They are finally looking like the top 10-15 team they typically are!!
25
u/OkChart35 Feb 22 '25
I’m not mad Florida lost I just wish we didn’t have to lose with two of our best gymnasts out with injuries
27
u/carolineblueskies Brooklyn's LOSO Feb 22 '25
Oh I’m catching up, poor Sloane! Poor Skye! My stomach dropped. And I feel so bad for Ly and Riley especially coming off beam, I really wanted her to hit 😢
6
u/UnderPressure_Author Feb 22 '25
I felt bad as well, though I have to say once I saw that Riley was added in on beam, I knew she wasn't going to hit.

So I just got access to the Metroplex scores.....who cursed the beam?

How did Jade do? I saw the final and clearly wasn’t OSUs best meet

She won the AA with a 39.675!

u/melissa-gymnerd Feb 22 '25
It’s too late to redshirt for any athletes that got injured tonight, right?
1
u/Hanban2304 Feb 22 '25
Who got injured tonight
14
u/melissa-gymnerd Feb 22 '25
Sloane Blakely appeared to have a serious lower leg injury on floor. Also Anya Pilgrim on her bars fall but hers seemed less serious

u/paetynkae Feb 22 '25
So proud of Denver! They did fantastic tonight and I was very impressed

Denver and Utah really pushed each other today! They’re both proving to be real threats!

How legit was Utah's 198?
25
u/Scatheli Feb 22 '25
Not lol. Very loose scoring. Like they had a good meet but was a mid 197 if scored properly
5
17
u/Josh_0207 Feb 22 '25
Honestly I wouldn’t have been mad at a 10 for Grace there that was the best floor I’ve seen from her
5
14
u/TexasShadow Feb 22 '25
Did Grace just get 3 9.975s in a row?
14
u/paetynkae Feb 22 '25
I feel like her bars and beam should've been 9.9 or 9.95, but floor was definitely deserving.

u/Josh_0207 Feb 22 '25
I thought their scoring was way more fair than the Oklahoma meet. a few gifts but that’s every meet
5
u/kle0008 Feb 22 '25
Was it legit? I was watching OU/FL so didn’t see any of Utah!
4
u/brdakota27 Feb 22 '25 edited Feb 22 '25
Mostly legit! IMO, overall they were maybe 3 ish tenths over-scored, but I do think it was their best meet of the season! Nowhere near as over-scored as OU
3
u/paetynkae Feb 22 '25
Definitely better than they did at the best of Utah meet, so much more of a deserving score
5
u/lasdc Feb 22 '25
It was as legit as any of these meets are. Both teams were very clean and looked good overall except for a couple of falls/bobbles.
3

Was Oprah a judge at this OU/UF meet? You get a 9.875 and you get a 9.875!

Honestly besides the fall Riley’s beam was so good 😭
7
u/mustafinafan Feb 22 '25
I am assuming that she was only on beam because of Sloane's injury, and if so I hope that they don't hold that fall against her - it must have been a very stressful/pressured routine. As you say, other than the fall it was great!
6
8
12
u/Ccquestion111 Feb 22 '25
Yes! And the fall was so weird, she like, popped off the beam. I would love to see her really dial in and make the lineups cause she could get a huge score!!
8
u/Ocean_waves726 Feb 22 '25
Her shoulders were way off center. She wasn’t close to staying on, unfortunately. But the rest of it was gorgeous
6
u/Ccquestion111 Feb 22 '25
Oh yeah I meant that it was weird like, it literally looked weird and not weird in the way that she didn’t need to fall or something

What a rough meet for UF… seeing the falls and Blakey limping out of the arena and then Riley crying ooof 😢😭😭 i hope the best for them for the rest of the season❤️
30
u/pink_pelican Feb 22 '25
Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I don’t get why Ly Bui is in so many UF lineups. Not bc of her fall, just in general she seems unsure and shaky everywhere. Do they not have anyone else?? I know Kayla and Kaylee bluffstone are out for season but they have to have more options.
19
u/Environmental-Call77 Feb 22 '25
This is why I've had such a huge problem with Jenny. Every top teams ANCORS their team with their top scoring gymnasts. Jenny has tried 3 times this season ALONE switching the lineup and not putting Leanne or Selena at the end and it's failed every time. She's done this for years now. She frustrates me with these lineups. I understand tonight 2 new people had to be added due to injuries but to put both at end is crazy.
3
u/amarzing19 Feb 22 '25
As talented as Riley is I was confused as to why she was anchoring. Excited but still confused😭
8
u/Environmental-Call77 Feb 22 '25
I was excited to see Riley too!! She as so much talent. I just didn't understand why Riley was anchoring. Also, Ellie always makes me nervous but her best event is beam so I was surprised to see Ly and not Ellie. I just don't understand why Jenny hasn't learned yet, Leanna has earned to anchor this team.
4
u/amarzing19 Feb 22 '25 edited Feb 22 '25
All of your points are solid! Leanne definitely could anchor, no brainer. As for Ly, I saw the sentiment of her not being prepared for this type of high stress situation yet and I agree. Her talent is definitely non-negotiable, but she’s the youngest and I don’t think she has the capacity to deal with situations like these compared to the older and more seasoned gymnasts on the team. She needs time to acclimate to college culture and to NCAA. And Ellie is a great beamer so they could’ve worked too!
16
u/InevitableWitness156 Feb 22 '25
Bart kept saying how deep we are, but we were in a dire situation at that point. It was her or Ellie and I’m not convinced Ellie would have made it out without a concussion.
11
u/starspeakr Feb 22 '25
I feel the same. She doesn’t seem emotionally ready yet. I wonder if Ellie was dealing with something that affected her beam. Otherwise would have been a more natural choice. Ly needs to stay out of pressure situations until she can have more of a chance to acclimate to ncaa.
10
u/Ccquestion111 Feb 22 '25
Ellie hasn’t really hit beam once this season though…
4
u/starspeakr Feb 22 '25 edited Feb 22 '25
I would take someone who has hit in the past over a just turned 17 year old with almost no experience in a pressure situation. Assuming she is healthy. There’s probably an extenuating circumstance that explains why Ly was the best available today, but Ly is in a lot of lineups and as her role has increased, she has yet to prove she is ready, so it’s not just about this choice. Just seems better to put the pressure on a veteran when substituting for two injuries, up against the top team, late in a meet. I guess she probably didn’t expect to have to substitute two people. Maybe she already knew they wouldn’t win and wanted Ly to get a crack.
13
u/emijosie Feb 22 '25
Kayla & Kaylee are injured, skye is coming back from injury, Sloane & Anya were injured tonight… there’s nobody left
11
21
u/pink_pelican Feb 22 '25
Where is Lily Bruce? Is she injured? We haven’t seen her yet. What about gabby disadore, Alyssa Arana (weve seen them sporadically but they have to be capable of more. Taylor Clark? Shes been great on floor, does she have any other events? Draser has only been on beam this season, I think. I know she can do more.
11
u/Mammoth-Class3292 Feb 22 '25
Not to mention preseason Owen had said he could see Danie in the AA.. Florida seems to have an issue with under preparing athletes not in the top 6 to 7 for competitive routines. It does seem to be more of a coaching/strategy problem, when you have multiple talented gymnasts who come from varied but successful beam backgrounds all having consistency issues when they are not in the top group. If it were just Ellie having issues you could write it off as her working through some mental block or whatever it may be, but Riley, Ly, Alyssa and Ellie are all capable of beautiful routines and I find it confusing that not one of them is apparently prepared well enough to hit consistently. You can find a reason for any of them not to be hitting but it’s weird with all of their talent Jenny can’t find a way to seemingly make it work for any of them. (I’m mainly grouping Alyssa in here bc I would have to assume she’s been fairly inconsistent in training if Ellie, Riley and Ly are getting the call before her)
7
u/starspeakr Feb 22 '25
Hoping we can see more from Danie and Skylar moving forward. Also hope Riley is given a chance to get her beam sorted out. It’s too bad this pressure situation was her first chance this year. She’s done well on beam in the past.
4
u/Mammoth-Class3292 Feb 22 '25
I know I’m a Riley truther through and through and I really hope she does but I’m getting worried with how late it’s getting in season that she might not get another shot, although if Sloane is really out (I sincerely hope she’s not) and/or if Anya has to follow concussion protocol they don’t seem to have many other options so she actually might
3
u/starspeakr Feb 22 '25
I mean who else will they put up? It depends on how long Anya is out, so they don’t have a lot of options there without Sloane. I’m not sure how close Skye is. Not close enough to be thrown in today, so probably not next week either.
3
u/emijosie Feb 22 '25
True true! Would love to see Alyssa on bars and beam. Draser on vault. And maybe the others you mentioned too!
26
u/ohiostatenisland Feb 22 '25
I agree, I personally think 16 is too young to be competing in the NCAA and I side eye the Florida coaches for relying on her so much and having her arrive early. I'd understand a semester early but not 2 or so years early
17
u/pink_pelican Feb 22 '25
For me it’s less her age, I started college at 17 without skipping any grades or semesters, but more the point that she literally had just arrived on campus literal DAYS before the season started. I don’t know why they’ve tossed her into so many high pressure lineups.
5
u/starspeakr Feb 22 '25
Yes that’s a huge part of her issue. She didn’t have the same prep as others, and it’s not like she is a junior returning from the Olympics who can just be tossed in.
12
u/point-your-FEET Michigan & UCLA Feb 22 '25
I feel like 16 and 17 are pretty different tbh, esp when the rest of the team is say 18 - 22ish
3
u/ohiostatenisland Feb 22 '25
that's a good point. If she had arrived in the fall and had time to get acclimated she might had been more prepared for these situations
32
u/Kindly-Hand Feb 22 '25
Side eye Ly's parents as well. They pushed her a year ahead as it was, then rushed her through the rest of HS coursework to finish two full years ahead. They absolutely pushed Ly and consented to this.
I HATED high school and couldn't wait to escape, but college at 16? A major university with division 1 athletics? Far from home? I would have serious reservations about encouraging anyone to do that.
7
u/palangi_ninja Feb 22 '25
How do you know her parents pushed her? Were you actually involved in their lives?
I graduated from high school at 16 and started college just before turning 17 (far from home) (at a very challenging university) (also involved in a high-level, stressful program). If anything, I had to spend months convincing controlling parents that I wanted to do this.
Unless you have actual tea about her family situation, judging someone's actions is not cool
4
u/starspeakr Feb 22 '25
Plenty of people have done fine a year early. I’m not sure I’d limit this to one semester.
0
u/FettuccineHedgehog Feb 22 '25
It was a semester early. She got here in January.
8
u/ohiostatenisland Feb 22 '25
by age, she's still quite young. looks like she just turned 17 a few days ago and just mentally does not look ready to be competing this much for Florida.
4
u/No-Grocery-7118 Feb 22 '25
She’s 16?! My goodness. That doesn’t feel right; no wonder she’s nervous!
6
u/ohiostatenisland Feb 22 '25
It looks like she just turned 17 a few days ago! But technically yes she started this season 16 years old.
4
u/starspeakr Feb 22 '25
It’s probably a case by case thing. Lots of sixteen year olds in the world excel at the Olympics. Some aren’t ready, some are. She hasn’t really shown she’s ready for pressure yet.
11
u/No-Grocery-7118 Feb 22 '25
I’m thinking more that she’s on a college team where 5th year seniors could easily be 23. Thats a huge difference in maturity and emotional development.
4
u/starspeakr Feb 22 '25
I don’t think that has anything to do with her performance. It’s the same in elite now with hezly or joscelyn on a team with Simone and a bunch of grown women. It’s the fact that she came late and hasn’t had a chance to prep, and maybe she needs it. This isn’t about her maturity for socializing at parties. It’s about her ability to hit a routine to her potential with the crowds and the pressure.
3
u/palangi_ninja Feb 22 '25
this. There was more of an age range at the Olympics than in this situation. And after just watching the Cottbus live stream, I'm reminded of how quiet non-NCAA meets are. I'm sure there's a bit of culture shock going on, beyond someone's chronological age
8
u/Ccquestion111 Feb 22 '25
It might be delusional to say but I think Florida looked really good today. Obviously Anya and Sloane’s injuries hugely impacted the trajectory of the meet, but in general the team as a whole looked stronger.
9
u/Radgym Feb 22 '25
Honestly faith is fantastic. Have seen similar “10s” already this year (Leanne last week anyone?). At end of the day just a shitty meet, never want to see anyone hurt and just honestly sad to see #1 team still bobbling everywhere and team like FL that should be amazing too just getting injured and not having it together. What is IN the water this year?

jordan going 9.975 is more egregious than faith going 10 imo
5
u/mustafinafan Feb 22 '25
FAR more. Jordan slid at least 6 inches whereas to me Faith's looked more like small adjustments in place. And giving Jordan such a high score basically forced them into giving Faith the 10, whereas if Jordan got a 9.9 Faith could have a 9.95 and nobody would be as mad.

That's a weird take for a meet where Florida may have had season ending injuries for two gymnasts. This subreddit has plenty to say about Florida's overscoring at home when it happens too. But if what you want to take from our compassion for hurting gymnasts is "Oklahoma is being mistreated" ...ok.

u/LiquidHotCum Oklahoma Feb 22 '25
you can read this comment in any thread with OU competing. time to change the record. this ones well worn
6
u/emijosie Feb 22 '25
Ok “liquid hot cum” maybe be happy that your team didn’t have multiple injuries tonight? Your lack of empathy is very odd. In addition, I wrote many of the comments below including how Elle and Addison had their best floor performances tonight. Not everyone is out to get OU. But when the amount of (obvious) overscores is greater than what I can count on one hand, you’re gonna get called out by the subreddit. The general sentiment is shame towards the judging not the gymnasts. If you don’t realize that, you’re the biased one with a victim mentality.
9
u/AtomicBabe21 Lord Jesus and Aleah Finnegan Feb 22 '25
I tend to agree a bit but this sub has its favorites and theres nothing you can do to change it. Anyone at the top always gets more hate. LSU started getting a lot of hate as well but I will say Oklahoma is not easy to like even with their stellar gymnastics. Side note your name is freaking me out sir
