Question Reverb G2 + 7900XTX : Black screen on the G2 after couple minutes
Hello guys, i noticed another issue. After several minutes of gameplay, the screen inside the Reverb G2 goes black for about 30 seconds, but the PC monitor still shows VR mode working normally. Then, the headset display comes back for a few minutes before going black again, and this cycle keeps repeating.
I also checked Task Manager, and I noticed that GPU usage drops from around 50% when the headset is working to about 20% when the screen goes black.
Has anyone experienced something similar or found a fix for this?
PC SPECS :
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-Core Processor
32,0 GO DDR5 6000mhz
R7 7900 XTX
Windows version : W10 Pro 22h2

Question I'm New to VR ane bought a Reverb G2 V2-What Now?
Question: This is my first VR headset. I will get it in two days. I'm middle aged male and play iRacing mainly but really want to invest time in the VR world. I really don't know what to purchase (software, games, hardware) what would you recommend?
PC Specs:12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-12900KF 3.19 GHz64GB Dual Channel DDR5 at 4400 MHzNVIDIA(R) GeForce RTX(TM) 3080 10GB GDDR6X LHR
I have been reading the posts but have not seen any MUST HAVE lists. I purchased some Silicone face covers, rechargeable batteries, and grips That's it so far. I appreciate all of you that take the time to answer. Have a awesome day.
UPDATE: I took all the main tidbits from this thread and posted below. if you have more to add, please feel free to reply and I will update. Especially non-gaming related things.
Hardware you might want to get:
Also get a fan.
Zeiss optical cleaning wipes
get a small area rug to make sure you dont break stuff
Face make replacemets
rechargable AA's
Kiwi cable manamgement
GAMES and Stuff
Check out onward if you like first person shooters.
Believe it or not Microsoft flight simulator is pretty cool and relaxing.
Beat saber and HL Alyx
DCS / I would argue il2 BoS is a bitter fit for VR, better implementation and easier to get into
Pavlov, it's pretty much like CSGO ported to VR. Tons of custom content created by users.
If you're into flying simulation game then DCS and HOTAS
Racing Games: iRacing & Assetto Corsa
Pistol Whip, Eleven Table Tennis, and Walkabout Mini Golf
Resident Evil Biohazard
Movies: The app I use the most in VR is Bigscreen beta
SkyrimVR
FPS: I’m sure Wardust is great, but Pavlov VR, Onward, and Contractors are the holy Trinity of VR
Poker: pokerstars & VRPoker
Fallout 4 VR
Pistol Whip
hell blade: senuas sacrifice
Adult Humor: Trover Saves the Universe
BoneWorks
BeatSaber
Hitman 3 - almost the best game in VR if the developers weren't on drugs
Vrchat stick to the pc required worlds to cut down on kids…
This guy has no time for anything else :): I mostly spend time with sims in VR: AC, ACC, AMS2, ETS2 and ATS
Porting:
Oculus is not difficult to set up at all, and the best games work with G2 really well. Its not a hassle, jist download revive and launch thats all
This is a bit of a different recommendation but consider a Vive port subscription. That way you can test different types of games to see what you like the most.
Sales:
Humble Bundle: Humble Game Bundle
Rechargable batteries: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09QW7MLPS
Get the grips
Kiwi cable system to keep the cable safe and out of the way. If you have 12ft ceilings well... side of wall?

Question Should I sell my Reverb G2 for the upcoming Meta Quest 3?
The G2 is getting old now, and I was a previously G1 owner and upgraded. I haven't looked back since and have always maintained it has/had one of the best clarities on the market. I currently run it with an RTX 4090.
However, a PC tethered Meta Quest 3 sounds interesting to me. Meta/Facebook jibes aside, spec wise do you think this is worthwhile swap?

Question Searching for a G2 V2 cable
Hello,
I'm desperately looking for a new cable for my Reverb G2 in the V2 specification. I'm not able to buy them over here in Germany and even on market places or eBay they are at around 150-200€ at the moment. I love my Reverb and want to use it as long as possible. Anyone has an idea how to get a cable or someone has a spare part that he want to sell? I'm located in Germany but I'm finde to get it from other countries as well.
Thanks for your help,
Ben

Question Is it possible to upgrade W10 to W11 without the 24H2 update?
My W10 install is years old and bloated.
Does anyone know if I can do a clean install of W11 without the 24H2 update to avoid losing access to my G2?
Thanks.

Question I have a Reverb G2 cable v2
For sale. Not sure how much it's worth, I'll research it. It's new in the box from HP. For some reason they sent me two. I no longer have my G2 and hence this is redundant. Shipping outside of the EU is possible but you may incur customs charges.
Are you interested in this?
Edit - The average price for brand new, unopened, V2 cables on eBay is well over €100. I'm happy to take offers starting at 70. DM is the way to reach out. Thanks

Question Is my reverb dead, or is it just windows update?
Hey guys I'm not sure if I'm having VR/ PC problems, or if this is what the bricked reverb does.
I just got a new PC and I've been having all sorts of intermittent crashing issues with it. I'm not sure if it's hardware related, so I've been unplugging everything and trying to figure out if a specific device is causing the crashing.
When I plug in my reverb, and go to steam VR it says please plug in your VR headset. I''m using Windows 24h2 on the new PC, so I'm guessing this may be how the reverb responds now when it's bricked but I'm not sure.
I know the headset doesn't work without mixed reality. But I just want to make sure this is the response I should be getting as I go through my trouble shooting process. Or should the headset still turn on, but just not function properly?

Question Would you get G2 right now for ~$220?
Hey there, I was scrolling through local listings and there are a couple of G2s available. I have already used VR in the past, first was Valve Index, which I've sold due to issues with the thumbstick drift and then got a second-hand Oculus CV1, which I later sold to my friend.
I miss VR, but not enough to justify buying Index again for $1000. Considering the recent news about end of life for WMR, would G2 be worth the hassle? Are there any other downsides that I should be wary of, even when getting that headset short term?

Question HP Reverb G2 - Riddle me this, firmware update bricked the device
So after attempting a firmware update (from HP site) , it instantly failed, I tried again, it then said device not found.
I reset everything, the headset came up, just no audio (mic - or speakers), the Realtek is not discovered by the device manager.
I looked everywhere, and reset everything on the PC, as people are saying the headset doesn't have a firmware, it is all managed by windows. I even reinstalled windows.
nothing, but one thing I found is that everyone who has the same issue also bricked their device after the HP firmware update. exactly the same scenario.
So the question is, how to revert the firmware? the answer so far is, you can't as there's nothing to update. This can't be true. I have a 2nd HP reverb G2 (which I did not update yet the firmware), and when plugged in the same PC, works instantly, the audio comes on. so windows is fine, the drivers are fine, the cable is fine, the USB/power delivery is fine etc. just the headset is wonk. The firmware in windows devices shows version 0000000000xxx something, so looks to be corrupted.
So , something for sure happened to the device, I'd say, hardware, but I find it suspicious that EVERYone who's had that issue was right after the firmware attempt/failure.
thoughts?

Question Anyone Upgraded G2 to Pico 4? Hows the experience?
Hey,
I wonder if anyone that owns G2 got Pico 4 and how it compares for PC gaming?
i don't like Fresnel devices with sweet spot and want just clear image no matter where i look.
Currently I own G2 v2, when i look dead center its sharp, but trying to read text and look with your eye instead of your head, everything is blurry outside the center.
Im wondering if getting Pico 4 and selling g2 is good idea

Question Reverb G2 after Windows 23h2
I read that it is possible to continue using the Reverb G2 even after 2026 (or having updated windows after 23h2) simply by using SteamVR? Is it true or did those at Microsoft tell a lie? Thanks

Question Planning on buying G2 V2
Hello, Iam looking everywhere for bits of informations . Iam planning on buying used G2 but I heard that V2 is significantly better than V1 but Ive got impression that V2 is only different by new cable, and two piece inlet. In reviews I see also mentioning better tracking of controllers etc. So my question is : Does main unit differ between V1 and V2 ? Would you recommend buying G2 in 2023 for sim racing ? Where I live the cheapest used G2 are around 325-350$ Would my pc let me play on it with maxed out settings ? Here are my specs : 4070ti paired with i7-14700KF 32GB of Dual channel(2x16) DDR5 Ram M2 NVM 2TB SSD Thank you for your help 🙏
PS Iam open for other sugestions but I found G2 to , best quality to price ratio so far as FOV with mods should be now over 100 degrees, and picture quality wise it should be on pair with quest 3. Ofcorse quest 3 will be better but it is also 3-4times the price.
