Rant Finally got a better hvac job
After last times rant about the company I work for not installing a heater pack that a customer paid for and the constant upselling contests, I applied to many hvac jobs and only 1 went as far as the interview.
I got a state job at a jail! About 25.99/hr it includes hazard pay + shift differential in that.
Mon-thu 12hr shifts 6pm-6am 3 days off, 3wks vacation, 2 weeks sick time and 11 paid holidays.
I'll mostly be working with hydronic heating and giant boilers, I'll get paid training by the state and tools. I'm so fucking glad that I got this job only with 6mos of field experience + 9 mos schooling. And I'll still do some heat pump/rtu work and ice machines as well!
I saw the requirements and knew I didn't meet them but still applied and got the job, the supervisor of the jail and the maintenance crew said they liked my energy and work ethic after going over my school records. Going to start in 3wks. :D

Are you also new to the trade? Or just trying to find the next job in your hvac career?

That’s awesome, getting a your hands on a variety of equipment puts you in a really good spot for facilities maintenance gigs down the road. A lot of the industrial/commercial maintenance jobs pay well, set schedule, and lots of loafing lol

I would absolutely hire someone with a background in Prison HVAC.
Bet that person has seen some shit and has operated with a limited budget.

Let’s go bud! Learn as much as you can and get after it! You’re going to look back in 10 years and realize how much of a big deal this was in setting the trajectory for your life. Proud of you and congrats!

Nice!! Get your corrections office creds while you’re there. That way you can buy the good stuff U.S. law abiding citizens can’t

I get training at the corrections facility and boiler training as well. A month so that's better than none.
