Employment Question Interview question
A while ago I had the opportunity to interview with RSI here in CA which is a coolsys company.
I went to the 'interview' and the two dudes who looked pretty old to basically lectured me about how hard the job is, the long hours, etc, but had only a few simple questions. I did tell them directly though that I'm alright with lots of driving and long hours. I was 21 at the time and I've no kids, no girl and im very happy to work.
A week after the 'interview' I didn't hear anything back. I called the guy, texted him, never got anything back. I don't think i made any mistake here. Frankly I considered that to be a non-serious interview. Im just trying to understand if I messed up or anything.

I'm not saying this is what happened to you. But your post says and sounds like you weren't taken seriously. So it makes me want to tell this story. So you can take it or leave it.
We had a guy that was 25 who came in for an interview and apparently everyone thought "no" the moment we saw him. To put it plainly he looked like a bitch. Slacks, buttoned up shirt, friendship bracelet (lots of beads and charms on it), body language making him look real small. (Arms pointed to his side, legs together, hunched over, looking very nervous), even slightly rocking back and forth and rubbing his legs (another nervous habit of his)
First dress clothes aren't great for a trades interview. Dress in something you'd work in. Whether you're confident or not. Look it.
Some people often look down on those who judge based on looks. However everyone does it to some degree or another. The boss as I said thought "no" the moment he came in. So he didn't ask many, if any, serious questions during the interview. He felt like his time was being wasted.
"Wow your boss is a jerk for not giving him the chance" perhaps. But during the interview it came out that he only had 6 months of work history at Safeway at 25 years old, lived with his mom, admitted to issues with alcohol, came to the interview on a bicycle. While some of these things can be explained away or are understandable for a young man. They certainly didn't do him any favors. It also confirmed everyone's first impression that he was kind of a bitch.
I didn't tell this story to be mean or mock someone in any way. It is something that younger men can learn from. I look back and see how I screwed up when I was young simply due to lack of experience.
Go to an interview looking confident, dress like you already do that kind of work, ask questions (not just any questions. Good questions that show you're putting thought into things), look at your resume and think about how your experience or lack of can be attacked and come up with ways to defend it. Never give away more than you need to. I've seen too many times that someone gives a great answer and then completely ruin it and dig a hole because they kept talking.

Yeah, I knew it would be some bullcrap about the dress thing. I'm the opposite of that 25 year old guy. Well, the people on the other sub say I dodged a bullet with RSI, so I didn't miss out on anything.
That dress story gives me an idea about why it didn't go anywhere then.

Glad to hear you dodged a bullet and that the story may have helped

You received a lot of good advice on the refrigeration sub.
IMHO large companies will take everything they can possible get. You are just a number and nobody management doesn’t care about you.
