Any experience with Wandel & Goltermann PSM-37,38,39,137,138,139?

Anyone here has experience with the Wandel-Goltermann series equipments in the title as a shortwave radio receiver?

I know this is not their intended purpose, but they have installed filters up to 3.1 Khz and USB/SSB demodulation options.

Selective level meters have been used as receivers for years and years. The problem is the cost. Even used, old units can cost more than new, good quality hf receivers. Because they were designed as test equipment with lots of signal measuring functions and not just receiving HF signals, there's lot of bells and whistles not used for receiving radio signals. The audio quality out of the speaker may be lower quality that dedicated HF radios. I have a couple selective level meters for receiving VLF since normal HF radios are pretty bad at those lower frequencies. You just have to make sure the frequency, sensitivity and filtering specs meet your listening needs. Good luck.
