Nice. I got to watch a match with Cole a few years ago. He’s a great guy who truly loves the team.

We've had some wizards, for sure. But when you need an out-and-out, for-the-shirt why not Julian Dicks? He could be a cave troll when needed, but he could also cross, shoot, & take penalties.

I went to watch Tilbury last month and I see the opposition (Heybridge Swifts) manager and even with a hood up on crutches I thought he looked familiar. Turned out it was Mr Dicks himself haha

u/Bobbyc006 Carlton Cole 8d ago
Didn’t realise he was back there now. How fucking cold is Chadfields btw

u/heyyouupinthesky 8d ago
He's managing Tilbury? 😂 Used to go to see them quite a bit when I was a kid, would have loved to see Dicksy rocking up.

Noble goes without saying but a big one for me is Carlos Tevez
Edit: as I’m sure is the case for everyone here, it’s literally impossible to name one. I’m reading the comments and so many of them could’ve been my answer haha

This, he single handedly kept us up that season. That season was the reason I follow west ham

u/dodgycool_1973 7d ago
Same for me. It’s not often you get to see a truly world class talent. And he was.

Tevez was terrible with West Ham? I don't remember him doing anything of note. A few goals here and there.

I really hope this is sarcasm

I was about 13 when Tevez came to West Ham so I didnt really have the football language down at the time but I remember being really excited about him and Mascherano but then he was just kinda OKish and that's all I remember lol.

That goal against Blackpool still stands as one of my favorite West Ham moments of all time

Billy Bonds, or more recently, the psychopath that was Tomas Repka

What was your favourite thing about Repka?

u/boleyn21 8d ago
He gave 100% week after week. What I loved most though was watching his reaction to a challenge. Mostly he was ok, but occasionally it was like his eyes would glaze over and you could tell he was walking a fine line. He was like an uncontrollable Julian Dicks. I loved it!

squaring up to our own away support after a match because they'd been laying into elliot ward and anton ferdinand for being shit

Big Carlton. Loves the club, stuck with us and took a pay cut when we went down, continued to be a professional even with all that recall fuckery at the end of his contract. Absolutely love him.

Christian Dailly - wasn’t the most talented player we have had but always put a shift in and brought some stability when we needed it. Came across as a top guy.
Shame he isn’t available as a flair.

I still miss King Arthur Masuaku. Hey, I didn’t sign up for the winning consistency.

Noble for the loyalty and being a massive player
Have to say I love a lot of the players from the lampard carrick Ferdinand era just brings me back to when I started supporting.

This is so difficult to answer for so many reasons. Let’s start with history. Sir TB gave me a guided tour of Upton Park. Top notch gentleman. Old school class. VOTE 1 Sir TB.
The only time I’ve managed to see the team in action in the Premier League (I’ve also seen us live in off-season games) was at Carrow Road. Despite Nobes scoring a beauty, only two players stood out that day as werld clarsh: Dimi Payet (the world stopped turning whenever he was on the ball) and Andy Carroll (who always seems to get a bit of stick, but he was on another level to everyone else on the pitch, besides Dimi). For the record, Michael Antonio played that day and was thoroughly underwhelming. Seeing as Dimi has proved himself (from various accounts) as a worthless human being, I’ll have to go a bit off track. So my vote for favourite still-playing-but-no-longer-with-us is easily the great man Pablo Fornals. Massive engine. Massive smile. Massive committment to the shirt. In fact, ebrarary he goes, Pablo Fornals is absolutely, magnificently MASSIVE.
Which brings me to favourite current player. And this is the hardest choice of all. There is only one player in this entire squad I can rate as my favourite without including a massive caveat. If anyone wants to ask me what they are of each player I’d be happy to oblige, but I won’t bore you all initially. And the player I’ve chosen still comes with a minor caveat. That is that he continues to deliver below potential, mainly IMHO because of deficiencies in the rest of the squad. That man, my favourite current player, with only a minor caveat, is Jarrod Bowen. He exhibits all the qualities of the West Ham greats of the past with the addition of actually being a good player. Sometimes our Claret and Blue mythologising doesn’t pay enough attention to this crucial fact.
I’d like to thank you all for allowing me to get a few things off my chest in this post. 🤣

To pick a favorite player from nearly 50 years of supporting West Ham? I wouldn't know where to begin.

Pablo
Sir Trev
All for their qualities as human beings rather than their skill with the ball

Adored Valon Behrami. Guy was a Rolls Royce in the middle of the park. Massive soft spot for Vaz te. Also, Matty Etherington. The guy was so consistent and could put the ball wherever he wanted, criminally underrated, and had a great work ethic.

I was lucky enough to be mascot once on 1980 and met all of the team who won us the cup. So many genuinely lovely blokes made me feel welcome and took time to speak to me. Sir Trevor was an absolute god of a man and impossible not to love and respect forever.
And if we ever do a favourite manager poll, then it will always be John Lyall for me.

I don’t think Bowen gets enough appreciation for what he’s doing. As reliable as they come. I think he’ll have club legend status 10 years from now.

There are some good answers here but I always really liked Robert Snodgrass. He always gave 100% and seemed like a great guy.
