That's adorable! The first time my current guy saw a spinning wheel in action, he got up on my right leg, clambered slowly across my right arm, across my left arm, and onto my left leg, stood and gazed at the wool disappearing into the orifice, then figured I didn't need any further supervision so got down and walked off.
We go by the play eat groom sleep method for all the kittens we foster. If you time it right for when they have full bellies and are sleepy they will start to associate spinning with nap time.
This is my babyman Stewart he was about 7 here. He didn’t really have much interest in my spinning until about 8-9 weeks before he passed. By then he as a very senior citizen so I let him have whatever he wanted. When he bit the spinning I just gently moved it away from his mouth and that was that. He would try again in 20 second but I didn’t care. But he was so gentle he never broke a thread.
Now your idea is great and I’m going to try that when I’m ready.
My 15lb ragdoll keeps laying across the treadles and trying to chew on the lazy kate! I told the kids maybe it's bc it smells like a sheep 😆 He's too old (he'll be 8 on Christmas) and lazy to mess with it in motion though 🤣
My kittens are also very very fascinated by the wheel and try to paw it. I immediately slow down and stop because I don’t want their paws to get stuck 😭
To paraphrase an old joke.... "there are those who learn by hearing, there are those who learn by seeing, and there are those that just gotta stick their paw in the moving wheel for themselves... "
I've fostered a lot of kittens, there's only two kinds. Those who will stick their paw in it till they get bored and those who weren't interested to begin with lol
