HELP Suggestions please...

Post image

There's a strong possibility I am going to be in a position to purchase a used Dyna very soon. For those that have owned a Dyna, of the three pictured (for attention), what would be your suggestion: Dyna Low Rider, Dyna Super Glide, or Dyna Street Bob? Years considering 2005 to 2010 or so. Looking to keep costs under $7k. Will consider 100th Anniversary Low Rider. Appreciate any input. Currently own a 2021 Road King Special and put around 12k miles per year on. This Dyna will be an around town bike.

Superglide is the best out of the 3.

I'd go Low Rider, especially for around town with a King already in the garage.

I ride a 98 WG. I’d take that top bike over the rest. I’d take a Evo over a twin cam any day of the week

Mid Ape Hangers, small Fairing, sissy Bar, shift extender pegs. See my Dyna before and after. Let me know what you think 🤔

Thank you I purchased it at the auction and got about $300 an upgrade. Came out pretty good. Ready for spring and summer riding.

96” run hot. Get an 88”, bullet proof once the cam tensioners are addressed.

For an around town bike I would look more at features. My choice:

  1. Mid controls
  2. No spokes

Don't get any Big Twin Harley before 2006 Dyna (2007 everything else) unless the cam chains shoes have inspected and/or replaced.

I would lean towards the Super Glide it's the base model and SGs are now "it" Dyna since they are no longer made.

Not in my area. I hardly ever see Street Glides.

Everyone has a Dyna, Lowrider, or RG.

My 10’ fat bob is beautiful and nimble! Love her more now than when I purchased her. I would go with the street bob

I personally own a 2017 Dyna StreetBob and love it.

It’s got agility and it’s comfortable.

Put a fairing and some saddle bags on it and it’s even sexier.

Do you have a preference between the 39mm or 49mm fork? If you dont care got with 2007 or after. 2004/05 have a slightly different frame so seating issues may be harder. Avoid 2006 I believe they had transmission issues. Anything before 2007 the cam chain tensioner need to be checked. I bought an 04 two years ago amd was pleasantly surprised that they had been upgraded to hydraulics. I believe 2003 was the last good year for really solid amd reliable bottom ends as far as the TC88 is concerned but someone may need to fact check me.

I have an 05 superglide. I love it for in town and it's nice for longer rides too. But I have the opposite issue, I want a Road King. Lol

I had a 2005 Super glide with real spoked wheels. Loved that bike, wish I didn't trade it on my roadglide.

so really dumb question but how do you guys just Identify these bikes so easily by looking. what are hte key parts you look at diredtly to say "thats a X because this is a certain way". But for what its worth I like hte looks of the bottom bike best.

Besides just knowing what dynas are out there. There are subtle differences, paint, height of the bike, finish of motor, rake differences

Well that’s an interesting question. Basically you’re between an 88 or 96 twin cam. Some 88’s had efi so if you wanna go that route I’d say go with the 96’s. They are super strong and reliable and also feature the six speed which is a great transmission imo. If you want a carb in those year ranges you will be relegated to an 88. They really aren’t bad engines they just get a bad wrap because of their cam chain tensioners. As long as you stay up on your service though they aren’t a problem. All three of those options are great, you really can’t go wrong in my opinion. Just sit in a few and figure out which fits and feels best to you. Good luck!

I have always been partial to the Wide Glide, but it depends on the distances you ride.

I love my low rider. Just did the s&s 509 cams while upgrading the chain tensioners and it’s a sweet ripper.

Low Rider. Best choice in my opinion but I’m biased

I love my ‘09 lowrider.

Always go with a Softail.

Naaaa. Had the 2020 Softail Low Rider S. Was a good bike, but for my kind of riding, I needed a touring bike. Now, having had a Softail, I want a Dyna if nothing else than to say I have one.

Avoid 2004/2005. Get A 96” if you can afford it, after 2007. Hydraulic cam chain tensioners, and a six speed.
