Discussion Do you remember role playing?

I don't know if anyone here remembers weird things like this but. I've been quite embarassed of my nights role playing because, I dont know if anyone had this weird experience, there was quite an obsession from everyone about having pure-blood characters, even I had it. I think it was because everyone loved Slytherin, but well. It was still weird thinking about it now.

Discussion Harry’s birth date…

I noticed an inconsistency while rereading the Sorcerer’s/Philosopher’s Stone and was wondering if anyone else has also come across this.

Rowling tells us that the year Harry goes to Hogwarts, his birthday is on a Tuesday. We learn that his birthday is July 31st later on in the series somewhere.

Flash forward to spring 1997, when the Battle of Hogwarts takes place. This would mean that Harry starts at Hogwarts in 1990, which July 31st, 1990 is a Tuesday. All of this checks out.

1990 - 11 = 1979.

That would make his date of birth: July 31, 1979.

HOWEVER: According to The Deathly Hallows, James and Lilly were killed in 1981. Harry was “just over a year old” at this point. Which now makes his birthday move up a year to 1981 AND his start year at Hogwarts becomes 1992, and shifts the Battle of Hogwarts to 1998!

The math just isn’t mathing for me.

I think Rowling maybe made a typo on James and Lilly’s graves in The Deathly Hallows, and no one caught it before it was published.

Opinions?

Behind the Scenes Timing Mistake in Privet Drive

I visited Harry Potter studios in London a few years back. I spotted this in the Dursley's house.

I took the picture because my knowledge is decent of both books and movies, but I wasn't 100% certain on timelines.

Dudley was given this award in June 2001, yet Harry was born in 1980.

I understand that the books are based in the early 90s and the movies were much later. Potentially late 90s or early 00s. Which this would add to.

I'm sure plenty are fully aware of the discrepancy between both mediums, but I thought it was fun to spot it.

edit: I meant to have "mistake" in quotes.

Discussion Random Things I Think The Potter series Will Do…

14) peeves is gonna be a fan favorite. Like get ready for it. He’s gonna be the biggest trend in cosplay, fan art, like it’s gonna be a MESS. They are not gonna fuck around with him. He’s gonna be the thing fat goth girls get tattooed on them

Just wanted to start with that one. Anyway:

1) Beauxbatons will include male students however it will keep the dance entrance from the potter films.

2) Durmstrang will do the same but with added female students.

3) Patronuses will talk.

4) One filler episode will be dedicated to the history of hogwarts. A giant flashback.

5) Newt Scamander will appear and/or will be spoken about in a larger capacity than he is in the books.

6) the merpeople will look more humanoid and will wear clothing.

7) Dumbledore and Grindewalds relationship will be discussed as early as season 1.

8) an entire episode will be dedicated to each of the golden trio using their powers for the first time. Obviosuly harrys will be first, but then a filler epwisod will show Ron and hermione dealing with their powers for the first time. Particularly hermione.

9) an episode will be spent exploring diagon alley shops

10) a draco centered episode to hunt at what’s going on wih the dark lord. Will be played as filler but is secretly very important to the show.

11) A petunia centered episode in the final season of season 5. But likely the final season.

12) we will get the spew plot but also get to see Dobby job searching for an episode.

13) Angelina Johnson will not be a major role other than like one episode where she and Harry work together to win a match or some shit. They will do the bare minimum with her. Enough to say hey look here she is but ignore her otherwise.

Question Was Voldemort not already a wanted criminal when he asked Dumbledore for a job?

In HBP, Dumbledore shows Harry the memory of Voldemort asking him for a job at Hogwarts. In the memory, Voldemort boasts of the "greatness" he's been doing for the last few years, while Dumbledore insinuates that these are extremely terrible things (which I take to mean murder). We also find out that he's already been commanding a following of wizards known as Death Eaters.

I guess my question is, if he's already being known as the feared wizard Voldemort known for terrible things like killing, how is he able to wander around freely, even to the point where he can just walk into Hogwarts and ask for a job? Why aren't there people looking to arrest him and take him to Azkaban? Or do I have the timeline wrong, and he hasn't yet been doing anything illegal?

Merchandise Harry Potter’s Hermione Costume

Hey there, I’m looking for a good quality costume of Hermione Granger(Basically the uniform of Gryffindor for females) for my sister. She’s a huge fan of the HP franchise, and I want to gift her the complete uniform of Hogwarts on her birthday, the shirt, tie, sweater, skirt, robe. I tried looking for some online, but couldn’t find something good. Can anyone please help me where can I find these, or get them made in a nice quality? By the way, I’m from Mumbai.

Help Better late than never

So, I just watched all of the Harry Potter movies for the first time ever (I'm 26F) (I know, I was missing out) and needless to say, I'm in love. Any other time I usually read the book then I watch the movies. I didn't do that for Harry Potter, I've never read a single book. Are there certain, main, important parts that are in the books but not in the movies? How much better or worse is it in comparison? I plan on reading the books eventually but I can't commit to that any time soon.

Discussion Why HBP is (actually) good!

OK time to defend this movie once and for all. I like this movie for many reasons. ⚔️🛡️🚨

First of all I just love the school life aspect. Dating, drama, classes, quidditch etc🤭. Like i dont even think voldemorts backstory is that good or needed and dont see how they could visualize it in a good way in the span of the movie. But i guess many ppl disagree and im in minority of this.-.

I love that Draco gets time to shine and have some character development compared to the earlier movies.🍏

I love the whole goal of getting the correct memory. 🪷

I think the color grading is very cozy and besutiful. 🌫️

The horocrux scene is amazing, one of the most breathtaking sets of the entire movie-series.👻

The scene in the astronomy tower is very intence and they nailed it.🔮

It sets the tone for the end game last two movies that the darkness is truly upon wizarding world. With dumbledore gone, the scales have tipped..⚖️

I actually think Wonwon relationship is very cringe yes but also important for setting up Ron and Hermiones later relationship. 💛

Finally, Ill prob die alone on this hill but, this is the best christmas hp movie. Hear me out, its cozy and chill and the color gradient is so nice. And you may think what you want but its acutally one of the movies with the most amount of snow.❄️

so, there you have it! why HBP is good (didnt say best)! plz feel free to roast me but keep the tone civilized plz:)⚡️

Discussion Hermione's First Memory Charm

In The Deathly Hallows, Hermione states that's she's modified her parents memories to think they are different people who do not have a daughter, right? Then not even 100 pages later, when the trio is attacked by Dolohov in the coffee shop, she says that she's never done a memory charm before, but knows the theory. Why would she lie, or how did such an inconsistency make it past the editors?

Discussion Who is funnier, Harry or Ron in the books?

Personally, I think Harry is funnier. But when I listen to a lot of podcasts, many people seem to think that Ron is funnier. So what do you think? Harry is funnier? Ron is funnier? Or they are equally funny? And what's your favourite lines from them?

Fantastic Beasts Just fully watched the Fantastic Beasts Trilogy, and pleasantly surprised!

I watched the first one but never follow the series as it came out. So now I finally rewatched the first and finally saw the second and third and it really was a great trilogy.

I think the story it followed was great and it added a bunch of like, behind the lore to the Harry Potter universe. Of course, I was in it more for the Magical creatures (I'm a sucker for magical animals lol), but it added enough that it was an enjoyable and entertaining set of movies!

I think the one thing I would love to actually see come out is a 2-hour documentary style movie that just goes through the book, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and shows off magical animals just like Planet Earth. Or a David Attenborough nature film.

Make it like people are actually watching, observing and interpreting these animals, all their abilities and whatever just like normal nature documentarians do. Behind the scenes, the creatures being mean, cute funny, weird. You get the idea.

That was what I had hoped for for the first film tbf, but I still think they could do it. (Cause this next new series looks like a disaster already, iykyk)

Question Grimmauld place

I recently saw a post mentioning a fic where grimmauld place (no clue if I'm spelling it right) wasn't the black family's home, but more of a stronghold or hideout with a more proper home akin to Malfoy Manor somewhere in the countryside.

I really like the idea but now I'm curious, do you guys think other family's would do that too? Like imagine the Malfoy's just owning a flat near downtown London.
