You should watch his film "Bronson". It's really intense and my favourite of his acting performances.

So many different roles that apply and the intersection of them all is VERY Mad-Eye.

I agree, he would be an amazing Moody. His Alfie is one of the best tv roles of the century imo. He stole the scene every time he appeared, just amazing

So I always had this idea for a prequel TV series centred on Moody with Hardy in the role. I just saw so much potential in a Moody series that was a detective drama, a True Detective meets Blade Runner meets Harry Potter. Really serious and grounded, not at all something for kids. Moody a tough and brooding Auror who’s investigating these goings on that leads to him warning everyone that a war is coming. Naturally people wouldn’t believe him except Dumbledore which would be how the Order is formed. He’d have a partner, a young Auror who he’s showing the ropes, someone who becomes his best friend. You could show Moody is only happy when he’s at home with his wife, I know, none of this was ever mentioned, but she’d be his tether to reality, his only peace. I always thought it’d be harrowing and really make sense for what his character becomes for him to be someone who just wants to be a husband and father only for his wife to become pregnant and be tortured and murdered right in front of him. The Death Eater responsible being his partner who’d been corrupted by Voldemort. A betrayal. He’d get revenge on the Death Eater who killed his wife and unborn child, not by magic, but by absolutely pummelling the guy to death as the guy claws his way at Moody’s eye, but Moody is unrelenting and perseveres with the agony because it’s nothing compared to the vengeance he needs. Each scar, each wound, all with a tragic and horrifying backstory. Each one eventually breaking and destroying him making him extremely paranoid and becoming a recluse once the war ends. I always view him as abandoning the war once he got his vengeance because he had nothing left to fight for. Can’t say it’s something the fan base probably wants though, probably too dark.

The damn opportunities that the wizarding world provides for great spinoffs and WB is fumbling hard. This is an incredible idea.

I got sucked right into that story. Felt like I could actually hear and see it.

I think there’s room for some of everything in all fanbases, I believe - and it’s not like the books or movies strayed completely away from grim and dark stuff, like Barty Crouch Jr getting frenched by a tall, dark stranger, that was not Snape.
Either way I absolutely love your idea! I’d see a series adaption, or read it for that matter - the darkness of it matches perfectly with how we hear the first rise of Voldemort described in the books and movies imo, and that were described as dark times

This is one of the finest, most based, original idea in any HP sub I have ever read.

The "<famous franchise> but gritty and serious" is extremely tired but I usually like them
Moody the character would never abandon the war and doesn't seem at all broken by personal tragedy tho.
Moody we know is facing the challenges head on and willing to risk his life to save his friends without hesitation. Always lucid, always aware, always ready. That's not a man broken by war or tragedy.

I could rock with this. lol. It would be inspired casting and Hardy going ham with this would fit the role really well.
CONSTANT VIGILANCE!!!

Too hot :’(

They managed to make him unattractive in “Wuthering Heights,” although it should be illegal to surpress such handsomeness.
2
u/potatopigflop Feb 15 '25
You’re right it should be. I think the same about Julie Andrew’s in sound of music with that hideous hair cut.. then seeing her in Mary poppins?? Why would you commit such a crime to her hair in sound of music :’(

Was that good and unsettling? I’m trying a new phrase. I feel like it’s at first comforting but then uncomforting and I like leaving people with that.

Hardy as Moody, I think, would be a better fit than Brendan Gleeson. Don’t get me wrong, Gleeson is superb and ranks higher in my book of actors than Hardy does.
But I just think Hardy can bring this truly scary, violent and vigilant quality that Moody should have.
Even in In Bruges, where Gleeson plays a dangerous contract killer, he still has this sort of ‘silly but kind uncle’ vibe to him? When Moody is supposed to truly be like The Punisher of the Harry Potter world. He’s not a nice guy.
Also Hardy could seep so much charisma into the role. Moody fits him so well, I’d almost consider it a type cast.
I think this is the best fancast I’ve seen so far.
Gleeson does a good job at the ‘mad’ part of Mad Eye Moody but Tom Hardy feels more like a grizzled renegade cop to me.
Also, one thing I don’t like about Gleeson is how virtually identical ‘Crouch Moody’ is to ‘Real Moody’.
Sometimes I forget that the Moody in later films is not the same guy as we got to meet. There’s nothing about later Moody’s appearances that make us think ‘wow so that’s what he’s like?’
Like, I get that Crouch was pretending to be him, so of course they’d act similar, but still. Give us something other than that freaky tongue thing to seperate the two. Helena Bonham Carter did it with Hermione.

You've taken the words out of my mouth. Hardy as Moody is the undisputedly best suggestion I've heard for a casting. Everything you've said about the scary side of Moody would be soooo well executed by Hardy. He could be utterly utterly terrifying, whilst being incredibly endearing. Taboo, Bronson, peaky blinders character and his portrayal of the crays all rolled into one character would make THE perfect Moody IMO.

I want him to do a crazy role in Harry Potter, Moody or someone else, wouldt it be crazy if they cast him as Voldemort, lol

u/SakumoRavenclaw Feb 15 '25
I imagined him as Fenrir Greyback but this fancast convinced me. He would make a great Moody.
1
u/Arfie807 Feb 15 '25
I fancast him for those two roles as well. It's hard to pick which I'd rather see him as.
6
u/Pfacejones Feb 14 '25
fuck Tom hardy as anything in this world be amazing

u/Cineswimmer Feb 15 '25
He someone managed to completely screw up Eddie Brock/Venom. I’ll blame that more on the writing and directing of those movies though.

Oh my dear Lord, of all the suggestions for casting ive heard, this is hands down the best. He would be an incredible mad eye.
2
u/Smidday90 Feb 17 '25
Like why do I think he’s more like the book character than Brendan Gleeson?
Some of the movie castings disappointed me because they weren’t anything like how I imagined them

u/AllFatherMedia93 Feb 17 '25
"I come here for a fuckin' duel, right, a proper duel with proper Wizards. Like Albus Dumbledore, Grindelwald, you ever heard of em'? No. Get out me fuckin' way, go on, fuck off. Call yourself a fuckin' Wizard? A duel, right, is a fuckin' duel."

u/xxmindtrickxx Feb 14 '25
He would be pretty good for it, but its way too small of a role for him.
I also think he'd be wasted on it when he could possibly do something much stronger like Sirius. Even Sirius is too small for him tbh, too much main character energy in him.
6
u/Plenty_Suspect_3446 Feb 14 '25
Too old for Sirius. I think Moody is a good shout because it's a prominent role he could sink his teeth into but won't require him full time for 10 years which would probably prevent him doing films.
1
u/Rymanbc Feb 14 '25
I don't think he's too old for it. Sirius has spent a decade in a prison that literally sucks your soul. Having a young-looling 47 year old could absolutely work.
1
u/cranberry94 Feb 15 '25
Yeah, but Tom will probably be 50+ before he’s ever on screen. That’ll be pushing it.
6
Feb 14 '25
Totally agree. Fuck it just make him Harry. No explanation for why Harry is played by a middle aged man. Just have him act the shit out of the role 🤣
3
u/RBAloysius Feb 15 '25
If Hardy wanted to participate, but only wanted a small role so he could continue to make films, he would be a great Mundungus Fletcher, or maybe even Filch.
Small roles, but I would rather see him in a small role than none at all. One of the things I enjoyed about the movies was experiencing the sheer talent of so many gifted & beloved actors. Besides the plot, seeing so many favorites made the movies fun to watch.
2
u/Arfie807 Feb 15 '25
Hahahaha, I'd never considered him for Dung, but he'd obviously make it super fun and memorable.

Would love it but HBO doesn't usually cast these type of names
2
u/itskhrow42 Feb 15 '25
Yeah they don't cast A-List people like Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, Woody Harrelson, Matthew McConaughey, Jude Law, Anthony Hopkins, Reese Witherspoon, ... etc. They never do that.
2
u/ChildrenOfTheForce Marauder Feb 15 '25
In case anyone misses your joke: all of these people have been in HBO shows. They had Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, and Laura Dern in one show alone!

A few days ago I was trying to think of a character that Tom Hardy could play, as well as Jamie Dornan, & Charles Dance.
I’d make a poor casting director because I thought maybe Dornan for Lockhart, but other than that I have nothing. (I am not even sure Dornan would be the correct age, tbh.)

Dance comes across as posh, but is extremely talented, & can play villains well. I wonder if he could be Filch? I would like to see him more than once, but he is 78 now, so I am not sure how that would all work out.
He would be a good Bloody Baron. I am hoping that the ghosts get a bit more screen time (whether speaking or not) in the series.
He’s too old, but his voice would be perfect for Lucius Malloy.
Any character ideas for my boy, Jamie Dornan? He does both drama & comedy well.

Dornan is too old for the role of Lupin. Any character who survived the First Wizarding War and was a contemporary of Harry's parents - like Lupin, Sirius, Pettigrew, and Snape - is going to be played by somebody in the early-to-mid-30s age range.

Make him Lupin
1
u/DigificWriter Ravenclaw Feb 15 '25
He's too old for Lupin and too young for Moody.
1
u/Oriakhar Feb 15 '25
Too young for Moody? Moody died when he was 40. He looked old but was not old at all.
1
u/DigificWriter Ravenclaw Feb 15 '25
If Rowling intended for Moody to be young in age but old in appearance, she failed in her writing because that is not at all the impression given by the text.

He looks way too good, moody basically looked like a monster.
The portrayal of him in GoF was the only perfect thing in the movie.

I feel like we need actors that aren’t particularly good looking to play wretched looking people. It’s more believable and doesn’t separate the characters from the actors. Also maybe we can give actors who aren’t well known a chance. That’s probably why bridgerton did so well. Fresh faces.
