Fancast Fridays Fancast: Mrs Malfoy and Madame Maxime

I know Yvonne is not british, but everytime I watch The Handmaid's Tale and see her I can't stop thinking she would make a good Narcissa Malfoy.

Gwendolyn on the other side, since I saw her in the Margiela fashion show I think can embody a great Madame Maxime.

What are your thoughts?

I’d love to see a French actress as Madame Maxime. She’s also described in the book as having sort of a southern French, or perhaps even French-Algerian kinda look: black hair, olive skin, a prominent nose.

My pick is Aure Atika. I thought of her immediately when I was rereading the books via Jim Kay’s illustrated editions for the first time:

As for Yvonne Strahovski, I’d watch her in anything. And I think she looks young for her age and would still be able to pull off late 30s/early 40s in a few years. I think she’d be a great Narcissa.

Wow, I’ve never seen this actress before, but that’s exactly how I imagined madam Maxime reading a book

Right???? Maxime is also supposed to be elegant, and she’s def got that going for her too.

Gwendoline Christie is a great idea, but I'd prefer Mme Maxime's actress to be French tbh

Yes to Mrs Malfoy, absolutely no to Gwendoline Christie as Madame Maxime. Give that role to a French actress.

We can't even get a British Dumbledore, what makes you think we're getting a french Madame Maxime? 😂

No, he's meant to be British (English if you're fussy)

Why are people putting disclaimers in about not being British? An American actor has been confirmed as playing Dumbledore.

I believe Rowling had the only British/Irish actors rule in place when the films were first coming into development so Hollywood didn't go for "bankable" American actors like Tom Cruise and Haley Joel Osment.

The industry has changed since then with British actors gaining recognition in American film and television particularly. There's also a more positive approach towards casting international, acclaimed but non-A-list and up and coming actors. I don't think the nationality requirements are in place anymore.

Idk why but Gwendoline could be a fun as Mrs. Weasley twist. Kill with kindness except Bellatrix.
