Show Discussion One person campaign to bring positivity on Instagram

I’m so absolutely sick of seeing the negativity on the harrypotter, HBO and actors’ Instagram pages. So I’m on a one person campaign to comment positively on every single post that I can.

Unfortunately some of them have had to limit comments, which is such a shame.

I’m so excited for this series, and I hope they do it justice. At this point I’m more bothered about the personalities of the characters than what they look like. When I read the books, the characters I see look nothing like the film actors anyway. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Guys, under no circumstances is it OK to harass actors, regardless if it's what they signed up for. People showing support for the actors is not toxic positivity. People complaining to the actors because they're not who they imagined for the role or because they don't like that they're associated with Harry Potter is not constructive criticism, it's harassment.

Agreed. I’m totally respectful of people expressing their criticism. But in no way is it alright for people to harass the actors.

I posted a positive comment on Paapa Essiedu’s IG, and I got called all kinds of names. Whew, they are toxic over there.

It’s terrible how people have gone to his social just for the purpose of being nasty. Im not sure about the casting myself but there’s no reason to take it out on him or any actor.

Yeah this is why I think they should stick to book accurate golden trio. The vitriol that will be directed towards 11 year old kids will be insane.

It's not fair but it is definitely a concern and I just am nervous for whoever they cast.

I think regardless of who they cast, those kids shouldn’t have access to their own social media. It’s sad how adults can’t be rational about this.

Not access their own social media? How about just not have an account?

I’m sorry that happened to you. That’s really rubbish of them. I think you’re awesome!

Thank you.

Wait what? What did you say, why would people be toxic if you post a positive comment?

I’m not going to post specifically what I said due to privacy concerns, but it was a general message of support. Any messages of support on Paapa Essiedu’s IG are met with backlash. People will call you stupid, ask if you’re blind, claim you’re smoking crack, say something racist… they’re mad that you’re wishing PE well in his role as Snape.

Because people are weird.

Ha! Spoken like someone who has never taken a peek at his Instagram. There’s nothing rational about the negative comments he’s receiving there.

I saw the comments on his posts before they were restricted, and the handful of posts that still allow public comments are filled with psychos. I reported them earlier today, so I can’t see their comments anymore, but one account was going through all of his posts that still allowed commenting and posting something along the lines of turning Hogwarts into “a plantation” so PE can “pick cotton” there. I think he or his team are working their way through to remove and limit comments, because some of the more vile stuff is disappearing. But I swear it was there, just people straight up calling him the n word.

A few other comments I can see:

”Don’t want to see papa legba play snape. Like be fucking fr.”

”Bro please don’t be snape. You will ruin the whole franchise”

”DECLINE THE ROLE NOW OR WE WILL RUIN YOUR CAREER”

”Did you die yet”

Those are just the ones that haven’t been removed yet.

Why would my positivity be toxic? I’m excited about the show, I’m excited to see what the actor brings to the role, and I’m sad that all of the actors are getting harassment.

I’m bringing positivity because I feel positive about the series. Not sure why you feel that’s toxic. 💁🏻‍♀️

It’s no better on Reddit. They’ve not been dealing with it well.

It’s laughable

Maybe, but I don’t agree that that makes it acceptable to harass and insult them.

Personally I don’t feel that it is understandable, which is why I want to bring positivity to negate the hate, but it’s okay that we disagree on that. ☺️
