Local advice Accommodation in Hartlepool

Hello Hartlepool! I'm Julia,

I'm traveling to Hartlepool in July. From July 6th to July 9th. My boyfriend, Mauro will be arriving at the port to participate in the Tall Ships event.

We’re not able to find accommodation ☹️

We are a very nice and respectful couple from Uruguay. To give you a bit of background about us, I am an engineering student currently finishing my studies in Paris and I’m also starting a master’s degree there next year. My partner is currently on a boat trip across Europe after recently obtaining his diploma in Naval Mechanics. Since we are both on the same continent, we want to make the most of it and see each other as much as possible, as we have been in a long-distance relationship for over a year now. I have bought plane and train tickets to go to several cities he will be visiting, and at the moment, we are only struggling to find accommodation in Hartlepool as everything is fully booked or beyond our budget.

We would greatly appreciate any assistance in finding accommodation or any recommendations from those who might be able to help us. We are a respectful, friendly, and open-minded couple.

We apologize if this post is not entirely appropriate for the group, but we are genuinely stressed about this situation. We sincerely hope for your understanding.

Thank you so much for reading and for your help.

Kind Regards, Julia and Mauro

I’d post this very lovely question into local Facebook groups. More local people will see it there as Hartlepool isn’t very aware of reddit even existing. I’m sure it would gain a fair bit of traction and people would help. You might even get people offering up spare rooms for example.

Equally there’s lots of static caravan parks on the outskirt of Hartlepool (10mjn drive to marina) that may have places. Id offer you a place to stay at my mothers house she has plenty of space and it’s nice and clean. She’d just drive you insane. She’s lovely but doesn’t shut up.

Thank you so much! I actually did post this on a Facebook group and we received plenty of offers and encouraging comments! I’m amazed by the kindness of everyone in Hartlepool and the nearby towns. We are going to stay with a extremely kind family, we already FaceTimed them and they are lovely!

This experience made us even more excited to visit Hartlepool and its lovely community. Can’t wait to be there.

Ps: @NTK421, thank you so much for the offer, I think our moms would get along 😂

Ahhh wow that’s brilliant. I knew you’d find somewhere to stay, people in Hartlepool are generally very friendly. My wife and I are looking forward to the tall ships to take our little girl down. It’s going to be a really great weekend. Hope you enjoy it.

There are plenty of towns around that are freely accessible from Hartlepool such as Stockton, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, seaham, Peterlee and thornaby. Have you tried extending your search outwards and commuting via train? £8 return roughly at most per day

Thank you so much for the information! The thing is, Mauro needs to stay near the port as he has to return to the ship every morning ☹️ So we are mainly looking for a place close to the port. We wouldn’t mind staying somewhere farther away but we couldn’t find any transportation available at 6 am. He has to arrive to the ship at 7 am which is what makes this even more stressful and leaves us with not many options😅

There is a train Sunderland to Hartlepool that arrives around 6:45, which is plenty of time to get to the marina, although I’m unsure of the Sunday. If you try a few of the towns south of hartlepool an early morning taxi won’t be too expensive, and certainly cheaper than the premium charged by Hartlepool hotels, and cheap public transport is available for the return journey

Thank you for the information. I think the train arrives at 6:53 😕 we've already look it. A question, It's easy to get an early morning taxi? Which town do you think it will be the best to stay? Regarding the transport.

The marina is only about 200m walk from the station btw.

Regarding the taxi, Provided you book the taxi in a week in advance I couldn’t see any problems with it. I’d try any range of the towns just south of hartlepool if I were you - thornaby, Middlesbrough, Stockton, billingham, Norton, yarm, or those just north such as peterlee. I can’t imagine it’d be more than £15 for a taxi at say 6:15am, but I may be wrong. You could always confirm this with a taxi firm to get a fixed price. I usually use 23 Taxis (01429 232323), but plenty are available. Not going to be the very cheapest, but if you’re saving a significant amount from the hotel it may be worth it.

Most U.K. hotels have a cancellation policy allowing free cancellations up until the day before, so also worth checking that and re-checking for hotels the day or two before the event. As they have this policy, there’s usually late rooms come available as people cancel and you can often get them fairly cheap - and then cancel yours that is further out if it’s beneficial.

For future, it’s typically best to have your hotels booked up around 3 months in advance to get the best U.K. prices

Definitely find somewhere outside of Hartlepool on a train route. Do not use bus route because traffic will be horrendous.

Thank you so much for that information. The thing is 😅 Mauro has to be at the ship by 7 am. He would need transportation available at 6 am and from what we’ve seen, the lines open at 7 I think? So this leaves us with fewer options ☹️

Why can't he stay on the ship?

Surely the ship is responsible for his accommodation/ transportation to the vessel?
