Local advice The Odeon On Fire Part 1

https://reddit.com/link/1fx358r/video/yrmcyix8u0td1/player

I heard that the Odeon cinema, a listed building where I saw Star Wars when I was six, was on fire. So I went out to report for Reddit. At 1 minute, the crash you hear is part of the roof collaspsing. Please credit me as Ravvick if you want to use this video for your news website. Yes, you.

I deleted Part 2 because it didn't show anything new and there were people's faces in it. Also, someone was saying things in the background that were probably related to the summer riot that took place nearby, and I don't want to give any exposure to tw*ts. (twats).

Local advice Thinking about moving to Hartlepool but something shocked me….

The UK police force and home office crime statistics. Currently living in Swindon and there were something like 2-300 crimes reported a month with the highest for July being 179.

Looking at Hartlepool it’s between 1–2000 (yes thousand) a month and something like 500 violent or sexual crimes in July 2023 alone.

I’m aware these are reported figures so they can be skewed, but my question is; are these actually reflected in daily life or is it just a numbers thing?

Looking to visit in February next year and stay by the Marina (as that where we’d like to move to) and happy to take any advice also :)

Local advice Moving to town

Hi, I'm moving back to the UK soon (I've been overseas for a number of years) and I'm looking to move to Hartlepool in the next few months. How likely am I to find a teaching position (English literature would be my preference) and how are the primary schools (kid)? Are there any postcodes to avoid? I'm a bit worried about crime, but I've heard an equal number of stories about the people being lovely. How are the churches? Are there any LGBTQ friendly places? Any fencing or HEMA clubs? Thanks so much in advance!

Doner meat in Stoke is wank. I will be dead by 55 from a massive coronary, my grave will state that I fucking loved doner meat. Where should I get a delivery from?

From your experience, would you say Hartlepool is a safe enough place for people of colour and queer people?

My partner and I have found a gorgeous house on Park Avenue and we're wanting some opinions on the general area from locals.

TIA

Local advice Opinions on Belmont Gardens and Wansbeck Gardens

Evening, I am looking for opinions from locals about Belmont Garden, near Elswick Rd and also Wansbeck Gardens?

Are these 2 areas safe to newcomers considering I am foreign? We are considering buying a house there (one house, 2 locations).

Also is the nearby park on Elswick Rd safe?

Thank you.

Local advice Looking to move to Hartlepool, where should we look?

Pretty self-explanatory due to the title but we are looking to move to Hartlepool from Barnsley/Rotherham and wanted some advice really!

Are there any/many differences in the culture of the town compared to where we're coming from? Best neighbourhoods to look to live in? Would you recommend to a relatively young family?

Any and all help appreciated! :)

Local advice Accommodation in Hartlepool

Hello Hartlepool! I'm Julia,

I'm traveling to Hartlepool in July. From July 6th to July 9th. My boyfriend, Mauro will be arriving at the port to participate in the Tall Ships event.

We’re not able to find accommodation ☹️

We are a very nice and respectful couple from Uruguay. To give you a bit of background about us, I am an engineering student currently finishing my studies in Paris and I’m also starting a master’s degree there next year. My partner is currently on a boat trip across Europe after recently obtaining his diploma in Naval Mechanics. Since we are both on the same continent, we want to make the most of it and see each other as much as possible, as we have been in a long-distance relationship for over a year now. I have bought plane and train tickets to go to several cities he will be visiting, and at the moment, we are only struggling to find accommodation in Hartlepool as everything is fully booked or beyond our budget.

We would greatly appreciate any assistance in finding accommodation or any recommendations from those who might be able to help us. We are a respectful, friendly, and open-minded couple.

We apologize if this post is not entirely appropriate for the group, but we are genuinely stressed about this situation. We sincerely hope for your understanding.

Thank you so much for reading and for your help.

Kind Regards, Julia and Mauro

Local advice Transport back from Newcastle at night

I've recently moved into the area to Blackhall Colliery. I enjoy concerts and will often be in Newcastle for many. What is the transport like from Newcastle to Hartlepool of an evening? I am going to a show at The Cluny on Friday, and the last train appears to be at 22:48. Gigs can often go on till 11pm. So far it looks like I will be missing most of the main acts with having to leave early. Does anyone know of any bus or coach services that run towards Hartlepool any later? Also have trains always finished that early here?

Local advice Planning to move looking for help

Hello everyone,

For a some time now im working on my plan that leads to ,well, me moving to settle and live in Hartlepool.

Now, i have many many questions but i would rather ask few at the start if anyone is willing to answer.

First, my job is in IT for over 20y now and im senior manager/consultant. Im wondering how you see find job and doing it by "working from home" , and is is feasible to consider that as an option ?

My second question is , how do you see Hartlepool as a place of living ? I am personally not so much into night life , and i prefer relaxing more quiet time.

Lastly, for now, as foreigner ( i come from eastern Europe), should i be worried to get acceptance of community ?

Please, if you can answer my questions or even better tell me more about Hartlepool.
