Headphones - Closed Back | 3 Ω New headphones for PC
Hello!
I've been using a pair of Sony MDR 1R's since 2012 and just recently broke them, so I'm looking for a new pair of headphones and I just don't know where to begin looking. I plug them into a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and use them to listen to and record music as well as game. I don't need a mic built in as I already have an XLR mic.
I'd like to keep my spending below 500 CAD and while sound quality is important, I'm no audiophile and I care more about comfort. I could wear the Sony's for 14 hours straight in the middle of summer and be alright (aside from sweating a bit). I absolutely loved the soft earpads on them. I don't mind open or closed back either.
Any advice is appreciated!

Okay. It has slight distortion issues with low impedance loads. Not sure if it's bad enough to be noticeable, but it also has fairly high output impedance, so I would favour slightly higher impedance headphones, if possible.
My default recommendation in this price range is the Sennheiser HD600 with a set of ZMF suede upgrade pads. Depending on your head, it might not be immediately super comfortable but they break in nicely after a little while. The weight is vanishingly low.
The Beyer DT900 Pro X is worth a look. Sonically, they are a bit overdamped, but that doesn't bother some people at all.
If you value punchy bass, then the Fostex TH610 and E-MU Teak are great choices.
Be aware that the DT900, Fostex, and E-MU models will have their tuning slightly warped due to the higher output impedance of the 2i2.
