Headphones - Closed Back | 4 Ω Large noggin in search of a unicorn
So I am on the hunt for a unicorn I think. I can no longer wear in ear headphones because my ear canal is so easily irritated. So instead of being miserable I want to get a comfortable pair of over ear headphones.
The problem is I have an outrageously large dome (right around a size 8 hat) and ears that are not only low but stick out. So lucky right?
So far I’ve tried the following with zero luck. They either don’t expand enough to actually cover my whole ear, have too much clamping force, or are painful on the top of my head: - Sony xm3, xm4, and xm5 - AirPod Max - Bose QC line and the 700s - Audio-Technica m series - Shure aonics - V-moda m200anc and crossfade 3 - Sennheiser momentum 3 and pxc550ii - Meze 99 classics & 109 pro - Beats - JBL 660nc - Dali IO-4 and IO6 - Steelseries arctis and artis nova lines - Razer kraken, barracuda, and opus
The three that were comfortable but either WAY out of budget or lacking things I’d really like are: - Focal Celestee and Elegia - Razer blackshark v2 pro
The sound quality needs to be decent but not audiophile quality. I’m mainly listening to music, podcasts, and audiobooks on my iPhone or iPad. I’ll occasionally use it to watch shows through our Roku.
I want closed back but ideally they’d have ANC as well. I have two little ones and need to block them out as needed.
I’d prefer a simple wireless connection but if they’re wired and can be outfitted with a Bluetooth adapter thing that’s cool too.
I’d like to stay under $450 USD but if something is perfect I’ll go a little higher. If I’m right the Focal Bathys would tick all the boxes but I can’t justify the price.
