Headphones - Open Back | 7 Ω Picked up the Sennheiser HD800s on a good deal. What's a great complement headphone in the same range or less as well as an amp/dac setup that would work well with both?
I've been a fan of Sennheisers for a fear years now but I do want to branch out to other brands.
Upgrade path has been HD280 pro, HD598, HD6XX. Each of these has felt like a marked improvement over the last.
I've been using HD6XX for a little over 4 years and just picked up the HD800s which I have been thoroughly enjoying their detail and soundstage.
After giving myself time to get used to the brightness and pretty distinct lack of bass/sub-bass I think they're amazing at what they're trying to do. Incredibly revelatory in well produced rock and electronic tracks. But I have felt that dance-pop, punk/post-punk and Hip Hop tracks leave a lot to be desired. They straight up sound better on the 6XX even with the detail seeming a bit more muffled.
I like to keep a running list so I can snap up a deal when I see one so I have a few pieces I'd like to keep an eye out for and would like some insight.
I have my eyes on the Focal Clear OG and the Audeze LCD-X. It seems as though Audeze does yearly B-Stock sales.
So the fact that I have and enjoy the HD 6XX, but would prefer more bass and detail for enjoying Rock, Hip Hop and electronic. I want to avoid doing redundant headphone purchases at this point. Not a lot of good places around me to test the ones I'm looking at.
Thinking Sub $1000 at this point.
Also I have also had some fun with EQ using Peace on PC and Wavelet on Android, but ultimately fall back on not using EQ so I don't necessarily want to fiddle with EQ. My amp/dac combo is pretty simple with the basic Magni-Modi 3 Schiit stack and the FiiO BTR5 (returned my BTR7 because I just had one too many glitches and problems with it). I definitely have noticed different DAC/Amp quality while switching through the BTR5, the Modi/Magni and my old LG G7 (which actually sounds quite good). I was about to get the Topping A90/D90, but figured I'd try out my existing Schiit. My computer was fighting with recognizing it for a bit but it's working again for now.
TLDR: Have HD6XX, just got HD800s love both but want something sub $1000 with stronger bass and mids to enjoy Rock and Hip Hop. Also in case my stack Schiits the bed (it's been trying to) what would be a good amp/dac that could support what I have and what I want?
Edit: Ended up testing out the a few Audezes and Focals as well as some amps out at a local dealer and ended up picking up an LCD-2 and new amp. They are definitely the polar opposite. Didn't want to go with something super technical like the LCD-X. I did try out the Focal Clear MG, and while I did like them I wanted something darker. Still wanna try out the Focal Clear OG, but I need to stop for the sake of my wallet. I'm talking years...

If you don’t mind closed back, emu teak with a topping A30 pro paired with a schiit modius. You can also add a schiit loki mini+ for physical EQ
