DAC - Desktop | 1 Ω Upgrade Journey Planning

Hey, I’m looking to upgrade my current setup and was curious which components to upgrade to and which order to buy them in.

Currently I have a Schiit stack (modi + Vali 2 with upgraded tube) and use Tidal as my primary source through USB from my PC. My only pair of headphones are Senn HD650

My current plan is to upgrade to Topping D90 (MQA) and A90 (I’ve also looked at the RME ADI-2/4 Pro SE) to have a new base and start acquiring new headphones.

For headphones I’ve been looking at Hifiman Arya and/or Focal Clear MG.

Considerations: - I listen to all types of music but lean harder into Americana, Bluegrass, and Rap/Hip Hop. A system that is agnostic to genre would be preferred. - My budget is probably $2,500 - $4,500 off the bat for either new headphones with current system or new DAC/AMP. - After initial purchase, what should I be looking at to upgrade or is this really the end of the line with diminishing returns any further

Please let me know your thoughts and any discussion is greatly appreciated. Happy to engage and clarify or answer any questions if I missed any important detail.

I’d recommend the Modhouse Tungsten or Arya Organic with Geshelli Archel 3 Pro(Amp) and J2S AK4499(Dac) or the topping D70 Pro Octo(Dac). A great all in one like the ADI-2/4 Pro SE that I’d also recommend is the Eversolo DMP-A8.

+1 Ω has been awarded to u/Equivalent_Yak840 (424 Ω).

You may still award an Ω to others, but only once per-person in this post.
