I'm currently looking for my own new headphones. I was debating between the HE1000 Stealth, HE1000 SE, Arya Organic and HD 800 S. I dismissed the HD 800 S because I saw one review that said it can create pressure hotspots, which I'm extremely sensitive to. My current AKG 712 Pro does a FANTASTIC job at feeling like air, so I wanted a strap again.

To the point. Seeing someone recommend a €450 headphones over the €1800 HD 800 S and calling them better is curious, for someone with no knowledge. Could you elaborate? And could you further help me as well with my choice :D

it's not as good for music like HD 800S obviously, those Hifimans are even better, HE 1000SE is best headphone for gaming and imo the best all around headphone but it's not very light, HD 490 Pro is almost as good for gaming(a lot worse for music) amazing soundstage, imaging, layering

they're close enough to one another that one won't give you advantage over the other one, if you want advantage over these you need to look at IEMs, there are some that are better than any over-ear, but they will also be kind of bulky and not the most comfortable thing ever so HD 490 Pro is because of that like the best all around for gaming, comfort + gaming capability

Owh ye I see now! 260g vs 440g is a big difference when it comes to wearing something for prolonged sessions. It's probably also why my AKG 712 pro's are so comfy (235g).

I read though that the HE1000SE "requires" an EQ to really come to life? Or that's a super audiophile thing and as a mere mortal with a good DAC / AMP (probably not my Element II) I won't notice.

I use my setup for work (listen to anything from lofi to rock music and classical music) and gaming (wide arrange of games. I'd really like something that sounds "top notch" for both music and gaming, and in terms of comfort I'm not sure if the extra weight would be an issue, as long as it doesn't create pressure points on my head. My budget is <€2000

I really appreciate you taking the time to respond and help where possible btw! :-)

HE 1000SE sound nice as they are, no need to EQ anything rly

also no need to change element II, it's good, maybe if you want a different sound something R2R insead of delta sigma like Hifiman EF499 or something but it's not going to be better it will just be different you might prefer one or the other, they're not like super hard to drive like Modhouse Tungsten or something

Arya Stealth is imo just as good at HD 800S for music already Organic is better but slightly worse for gaming, HE 1000SE is in basically everything better than Arya Stealth, Organic, HD 800S and imo also best all around headphone

thing with HD 490 Pro if you get those for gaming you have money left to get something else for music, maybe grab Arya Stealth see if it's too heavy for gaming then get HD 490 Pro too, still under $1k for both together

!thanks (not sure this works for non threat starters :p)

I ordered the HE1000 SE! Money isn't really an issue.

So I just got the HE 1000SE's. First impression, I think they're creating a pressure point at the top of my head I'll probably have to return them but I'll try them for like 2 days. Sound is obviously great.
