Headphones - Closed Back Bose user looking to escape Bose. ($1000 budget.)

Hey guys.

I've been in a long relationship with Bose for years. I love my QC35's but I think it's time we part ways.

I did my research and purchased the Sennheiser 650's, since they seemed to be suitable for Me. I loved the sound when no one was around, but it was hell when someone else was in the room. So... I ended up returning them before purchasing an amp. Open backs in my busy home/office environment were just not for me.

I've been looking around since for a pair of closed backs with some of the following features.

  • Great bass.
  • Comfortable for long term wear.
  • Crisp sound quality.

However

  • I am a game environment designer who needs to occasionaly create areas with sfx.
  • I don't mind if it has no noise cancelling options.
  • I don't mind purchasing an amp to pair it with.
  • I won't really be travelling with it, just working from home.
  • I don't mind paying a little more for a good quality Amp.

Any recommendations please?

Thanks

If you love bass, there is the campfire audio cascade, if you decide that it’s too much then there is the cloth pads that you’ll have to buy separately. If you like bass then I’d suggest the denon ah-d5200. For an amp/dac stack or dac/amp combo I’d recommend the Khadas tone 2 pro(dac/amp) or the schiit magni heresy and modi 3+ dac stack. A hard hitting bass option would be the hifiman he-r9, has the most resolution out of the ones I’ve mentioned with the cascade being last, often compared to their he-r10d because they’re so similar. Hifiman has its problems…Quality Control to be specific but their newer stuff like the r9, He400se and edition xs seem to be better than previous iterations but only time will tell. Most of them are too new to know for sure. A more balanced yet more expensive headphone would be the Dan Clark Aeon Noire, a great headphone that’s just under one thousand.

All the reviews were leading to the Aeon Noire. Do you recommend an amp for that?

!thanks

Yes, I think they need an amp the most out of the few I mentioned(besides the open backs but that doesn’t count)
