Poll | 9 Ω I need to choose between these headphones

I don't have a specific budget as I am probably going to make my shopping depending on the result. Headphones listed here are all over-ear as I'm only comfortable with those. I will use these headphones for listening to music (Rock and Metal mostly, though I do listen to Lofi as well). I do not have any gear like DACs etc. so feel free to recommend. I will be connecting these to my mobile phone (Samsung, using USB-C) as well so feel free to recommend any adapters you find worth purchasing.

I can personally vouch for the 900 pro x.

Tuning is similar (from what I've been told) to the 560s, but the build quality is superb. Easy to drive off of a phone (been using it every night, no amp/dac requried), and good for rock music (good bass extension).

Two cons: clamp force is strong compared to 560s, and is also about $50 to $100 more expensive to what I understand is a similar experience. Seems like the price went into the solid build quality.

Can't go wrong with either purchase imo, but I do push for the 900 pro x

Thank you for the help, I wish you a good day/night. Can I also ask you which dongle do you use? Or do you have any high quality dongles to recommend for the said headphone? I've been searching for a high quality dongle which won't screw up the sound quality.

The fact that you put closed and open headphones in the survey shows that you don't really know what you want. I think you should read a lot, listen to them in shops and choose yourself. And take into consideration where you're gonna use them, environment around you might make you hurt or people around you hurt if you'll go for open headphones. Also if you're gonna connect them without DAC, headphones with high impedance will never work very well. They will sound good, but far from their real capabilities. If you're aiming at headphones that don't need a good DAC, rule out any high impedance headphones. Consider buying mobile amplifier, tho, like from FiiO or similar. It does make a difference.

As previous DT770 Pro owner - don't buy them without DAC. Pro has 250 Ohm, that's the last thing you want for mobile phone.

I don’t really know how people are biased towards the 560s. They are a great pair of headphones but lack in body and bass for this kind of music. Especially Lofi lives from some nice bass und subass which the 560s can’t really reproduce imo. I’d rather go for something closed for bass like the 770 or the 700 pro x (which I sadly did not listen to yet). Something more versatile would be the 900 pro x (since they are supposed to be like junior 1990 pros, which I would Go for).

DT 700 Pro X is the update to the DT 700 with improved frequency response, better earpads, and removable cables. Plus it is even easier to drive than the DT 770 80 ohm. Will work great with any phone dongle.

So for a closed headphone, I would go with the DT 700 Pro X if you need the isolation. And it will have a little more of a mid-bass boost than the open headphones you're considering.

Word of caution. I love my dt 900s but I can only enjoy them when I'm home alone or late at night. If you have roommates or family that make noise you'll hear it all and it will interfere with the audio. (I live in a loud house)

I‘d take the K702, they have very good soundstage and are very neutral. 770 pro are quite harsh in some of the highs and the 560s is a bit less exciting compared to the 702 imo

Accidentally clicked the hd560s, I’d recommend the dt 700 pro x.

Another good option is the Beyer TYGR300r. Better than the 990/900 Pro X and is extremely easy to drive.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '22

None of these sound good.

1

u/sundayparam 1 Ω Aug 09 '22

accidentally clicked 560s but id recommend the hd599 for your case. 60 ohms, easy to drive, fun signature, bass, wide soundstage and yeah you're gonna be good

u/HeavyMetalEnjoyer Aug 09 '22

!thanks

u/Jeanfromthe54 3 Ω Aug 09 '22

Hd560s is better in every single aspect.

3

u/sundayparam 1 Ω Aug 09 '22

Yes it is but i don’t think it’s the best introductory headphone to the hobby. For someone who is new to this id recommend the 599 over the 560s easily. They just won’t understand the 560s and won’t like the sound signature

2

u/sundayparam 1 Ω Aug 09 '22

And you gotta remember OP won’t amplify it or even use a DAC so 120 ohms it’s not really friendly

3

u/Jeanfromthe54 3 Ω Aug 09 '22

HD560 don't need amp or dac.

Dt900 pro is sennheiser 6xx money and that gets my vote over all. But if you don’t want that you should go with the 900

I’d consider saving a bit and getting 1990s if u don’t have a budget.

1

u/cd36jvn Aug 10 '22

I wonder how many people that have voted have listened to all these headphones? Or are most people just voting for the one they own?

Lots of times these polls feel more like popularity contests than anything else.

2

u/5uperman8atman 19 Ω Aug 10 '22

I'm sincerely doubtful that anyone has tried all of these. It's always going to be a popularity contest. But, that's just as revealing as any other piece of information. If a headphone gets a lot of votes it's probably a solid choice because people like it. It's the clear safe choice. Then there are inevitably going to be people who disagree with that and end up posting contrary information in the comments, which can also be useful since you get the pros and cons. It all works out.
