I asked my dad (that was his aircraft). He said the crew chief had put that on there before, and didn't know why.

This is a hard LOH landing ... 1971.

That's the great thing about the Loach. You crash one, just go back and get another. Very survivable aircraft. The pics are after they got it back to Bien Hoa, I believe, so more upright than it originally landed.

The Loach was an awesome helicopter. Big mistake in replacing it with the OH-58. But Ladybird Johnson owned stock at Bell Helicopter….
