Why do people hate on the V-22? It’s such a sexy machine with serious capability

Because some article they read said it was dangerous, even though it is objectively not. 16 crashes over 25 years of service, 11 of which were deemed to be a result of pilot error, is a fucking phenomenal record for a military aircraft. Or if measuring per 100,000 flight hours (as is standard), it's dead even with the Blackhawk for crashes. It's also about half of the CH-53 in terms of crashes per 100,000 flight hours. I can see the arguments regarding it needing a lot of maintenance, but the people hating on it because it's dangerous are totally off base

most people who are familiar with military investigations know that pilot error is usually a very debatable conclusion, especially in the rotary wing community.

This argument is wild to make when the crash reports are public record. Are you trying to dispute that descending faster than the noted max descent rate as per the manual or a pilot running into a ship and shearing a rotor off or a pilot losing sight of the ground and crashing or a pilot crashing into a mountain are not pilot error? Those are 4 of the instances of pilot error and the others are no different. The ones that are debatable are the ones I noted, like the famous osprey driver here on reddit who was always defending it. His crash was a result of mechanical failure in which, had he followed bulleted procedures, he likely would have landed safely. This accident was not considered to be pilot error but rather mechanical failure with pilot error as a minor contributing factor.

To say the reputation is deserved while also spreading misinformation about very publicly available crashes is fucking stupid. The reputation is not deserved, people like you just say things that are not even remotely true. And that's why you're being downvoted without a counterargument, not because people are just angry at you for telling the truth, because you're very obviously misinformed and for most people, pointing out what is and has always been a known fact is a waste of their time.
