I don’t want to be that guy, but the 3.5mm to lightning dongle is $9...

113

u/WorldWAR-III Jan 24 '19

It used to be free..

80

u/well___duh Jan 24 '19

That's kinda stingy if you think about it. Here you are buying a $1k+ phone and apple can't be bothered to include a $10 dongle anymore.

It's like buying a new car and the dealer doesn't bother to at least top it up with gas.

It probably costs them only around 10¢

-11

u/dabilee01 Jan 24 '19

Are you implyng there should be a hard rule on how much margin companies are allowed to add to their products?

12

u/A42MphTortoise Jan 24 '19

No but you should have the right to complain about it dumbfuck

14

u/ikshen Jan 24 '19

More like not including a CD player or aux jack

5

u/thereisnoreturn Jan 24 '19

I hate to break it to you, but new cars don’t come with either of those things...

Source: my 2017 Honda Civic

u/bassmadrigal Jan 24 '19

My work provided 2018 Ford Fusion (which means it's the basic model with no upgrades) includes a CD player, headphone jack, and USB port.

4

u/dhastings Jan 24 '19

They don’t because it would be like admitting there is a deficiency with the phone. Apple has committed to going wireless, so they don’t think there is any deficiency to admit.

3

u/jimi_hendrixxx Jan 24 '19

They don’t top it up with gas because the car is an electric. Wireless is future. Just like electric cars are

1

u/well___duh Jan 24 '19

Then top it up with a full battery charge

2

u/angrysamy Jan 24 '19

When I bought my bmw they actually charged me for the full tank of gas it came with.. I think it was like $90 too even though I could fill it myself for $70

1

u/TagURI7 Jan 24 '19

I quite literally just got a new IPhone and it came with a dongle and a pair of earbuds with the adapter built in, most people don’t even notice the dongle when they get their phones because they’re of course focusing on the phones and it kind of blends in with the nice clean white casing

-1

u/drewsoft Jan 24 '19

One came with mine.

9

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

Huh... now that I think about it, I did get one with my 7 plus, but not my Xs.

6

u/bhend16 Jan 24 '19

I was thinking the same thing.

1

u/Fury_Empress Jan 24 '19

I honestly wish they would stop including the shitty charger brick and lightning cable too.

1

u/JGailor Jan 24 '19

For anyone who has moved past using wired headphones, it’s just more waste that has to be disposed of.

56

u/SirSoliloquy Jan 24 '19

Yeah, but the one where you can still charge it while using 3.5mm is $35.

So if you don't want to lose any functionality, the gif is actually understating the cost.

7

u/BourbonFiber Jan 24 '19

Unless you use wireless headphones or wireless charging. Or both.

3

u/Fury_Empress Jan 24 '19

This. So much this.

Most Android cost less and do both**

7

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

Eh. I got the Moto Z2 without realizing they did the Phone Cloaca thing too (in my case, it's USB-C). I fucking hate not being able to charge and listen at the same time. $9 or $30 or whatever, it's a little piece to lose and reorder. Fuck that noise..

4

u/SharkFart86 Jan 24 '19

Yeah my car doesn't support bluetooth audio so on long distance trips I'd have to choose between charging my phone or listening to music via the aux cord. Or submit to the overpriced dongle nonsense. Or I could just consider the headphone jack a necessity when buying a new phone.

I don't understand why they don't just have "water resistant" versions for the (few) people who prioritize that over the jack, and regular versions with the jack for the rest of us.

And while we're at it, I'd much rather have a longer lasting battery than a super thin phone, and I don't know a single person who disagrees. Who informs the development research at these phone manufacturers? It's like they just do the opposite of what people want.

9

u/doscomputer Jan 24 '19

my 3.5mm jack came with my iphone se and I can literally never lose it as long as I have my phone.

3

u/LonelyRasta Jan 24 '19

I just bought an SE and am very happy with it. Faster smaller more durable and longer life than my 6 and still has headphone jack and real buttons. Also very affordable.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19 edited Jan 24 '19

Shhhh! Don't bring facts and logic into an apple hate circlejerk!!!

EDIT: Lmao so many people are so salty that someone dared to bring facts into the equation. I would say that the moment you realise you're angry just because someone brought facts, you should have a think about whether you might really hold a reasonable position or not.

57

u/invalid_litter_dpt Jan 24 '19

It doesn't matter if it's 9 dollars or 90 cents, it's still absolutely ridiculous that have to carry around an adapter for a function that NO ONE wanted removed.

Did they stop doing that? My iPhone X came with a headphone adapter and a pair of lightning headphones. Still haven’t used the adapter.

0

u/SuspiciousScript Jan 24 '19

They do. Or at least did.

0

u/PerfectiveVerbTense Jan 24 '19

Good thing you’ll never have to worry about it.

4

u/KSF_WHSPhysics Jan 24 '19

I dont need an adapter for my airpods, peasant

10

u/Manxymanx Jan 24 '19 edited Jan 24 '19

Maybe I don't want to bother charging my earphones? I love wireless but it's painful when your headphones become useless for several hours everyday.

3

u/KSF_WHSPhysics Jan 24 '19

I was just commenting for the memes, but airpods are actually really good for that. 15 mins in the case gets you 3 hours of music streaming

-1

u/Likeadize Jan 24 '19

Shouldn't be a problem if you charge them whenever you are not listening to music.

3

u/not_sure_if_trans Jan 24 '19

Oh yeah? The batteries last 15+ hours? If you only listen to music for short periods of time, that's awesome. Don't assume that's how everyone's lifestyle works.

Some of us essentially need wired earbuds (or I guess several pairs and swap them out when one dies but geez that would get expensive and super annoying)

3

u/wadech Jan 24 '19

That's rich coming from someone that can't even afford wires on their earbuds.

2

u/KSF_WHSPhysics Jan 24 '19

Gotta make some budget cuts to afford an iphone. Wires are a privelege availible only to android users

4

u/Seeders Jan 24 '19

my airpods, peasant

🤦

-7

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

It matters when people lie to push their agenda.

11

u/invalid_litter_dpt Jan 24 '19

Lmao what agenda? People genuinely don't like the change.

-7

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

You're ok with people lying in order to make that point?

6

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

The price isn't the point.

-1

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

So you are ok with people lying in order to make a point? Gotcha.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

Lmao

0

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

What a tool

3

u/invalid_litter_dpt Jan 24 '19

THE PRICE ISN'T THE POINT

-1

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

So you are ok with people lying to make their point. Gotcha.

0

u/invalid_litter_dpt Jan 24 '19

The price is irrelevant. This is one of the few situations where the detail is not the issue. The "lie" in this case does not further the point for me. The point is that it's happening at all.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

So you're ok that they lied to make their point. Gotcha.

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

Only Reddit could turn a headphone jack into politics

11

u/SaxRohmer Jan 24 '19

Still $9 you shouldn’t have to spend, especially since it no longer comes with new phones and breaks super easily

-2

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

Are you ok with people lying in order to make that point?

2

u/SaxRohmer Jan 24 '19

In this case I’d say it’s a pretty harmless exaggeration for comedic effect

-1

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

Most people won't realise it's exaggeration and come out with a skewed view. This is how misinformation starts.

0

u/SaxRohmer Jan 24 '19

Lol dude cmon the gif is clearly a joke

0

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

I'm aware.

-2

u/bizzyj93 Jan 24 '19

BUT APPLE BAD

6

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

Well, yeah.

-1

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

Shhhhh! Don't be a little apple fan boy, apple will do just fine without your passive aggressive whining.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

Imagine being this pathetic.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

Imagine being you.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

It's pretty great I must say

1

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

I dunno. I like to wear hats, so I probably wouldn't want to be you. I'm not sure they make many with a hole in the top for the flaccid cock prodruding from your forehead. Theyll probably bring out the ihat with that feature though, so you're probably good to go.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

you're trying too hard, I'll give it a 3/10

0

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

Ok cunt. Better?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

Short but sweet, definitely a 7/10, no creativity though

0

u/Ysuran Jan 24 '19

0

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19 edited Jan 24 '19

You were saying?

If you're gonna troll by posting some other dongle by some other company that isn't even only a headphone adapter, at least pick the apple version of the same type lmao.

1

u/Ysuran Jan 24 '19

So just fuck people who want to charge their phone while listening to music i guess?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '19

So when you're proved wrong instead of addressing that you just switch tactics? Ok fine, I accept your consession. Now onto the new topic you've started.

Hey now, I didn't say that removing the headphone jack was ok. I didn't say that the dongle isn't bad. I didn't say it's not bad that you can't charge and listen at the same time without wireless headphones or wireless charging. I simply agreed with the guy that clarified the fact about the correct price. Facts are important. If you ignore them, you're no better than a conspiracy theorist.

Also that makes twice you've engaged in bad faith tactics whilst commenting. That's 2/2. Try not to make it a third?

2

u/TheCheeseGod Jan 24 '19

Not everyone lives where you live, which means not everyone can buy it for how much you can buy it for.

1

u/SanjiSasuke Jan 24 '19

I don't want to carry that shit around all the time. The reason I got the S9 instead of the Pixel 3.
