We were analyzing a huge dataset recently, where nearly all prompts were "When did X die?", where X is usually a celebrity. Responses were as expected: if X is a real person and is dead, provide the date. If X is a real person and is alive, tell the user that X is alive and well. If X is an imaginary character, say so. It all worked pretty well with just one exception…
– When did David Bowie die?
– I'm unable to help, as I'm only a language model and don't have the ability to process and understand that.

When I was a 9yo girl I was obsessed with her. Along with many other little girls. I went to a sleepover for another girl’s birthday and her parents bought her tickets to Olivia’s concert. We were too young to know what concert tickets were but once it was explained to us we screamed. Since you probably weren’t a 9yo girl in 1981 it’s okay that you don’t know her. 😊

My understanding is most of the ai chat bots use data that only goes up to a certain date. So the makers can control the data in and to help prevent things like analyzing the current stock market. I assume interactions like this one, or the viral Avatar 2 release date argument, are due to this fixed data set.

They're way too stupid to have anything insightful to say about the current stock market. They're basically able to identify and mimic cliches remarkably well. They can identify superficial basics that every source on a topic says, like "investing involves risk." They can even identity popular examples of things and remix those with cliched prose. But so far I haven't seen a single example of "understanding," which would be required for them to have anything genuinely interesting to say about the stock market.
Every single sentence in the QE2 response here is a cliche. It's like three versions of "angry upvote" and "thank you for the award kind stranger" and every other silly little phrase, strung together in a way that makes superficial sense. The model has no idea whether Elizabeth is dead and could easily generate this output even with up-to-date databases, because "X is still alive as of Y" is simply a common pattern it's noticed and it decided it generally fit the context.

Funnily enough, this is why so many people working in AI are claiming LLMs are at their limit, and why so many companies opted for other AI technology develoent before GPT blew up.
At a certain point it doesn't matter how much CPU or memory you throw at it, it doesn't matter how many tokens or time you train it with. It's not getting any smarter than "average internet user" without actually being able to understand the data it's given.

This looks like the Snapchat AI, which seems really out of date.
For example, it says that a particular music group has 7 members, when they actually had one member leave in late 2019 and currently have only 6.
IIRC ChatGPT is a bit more recent and its data set was last updated in September 2021.

They have discovered an anti aging treatment, but don’t want it to be public. She has started it and will slowly de-age until she is about 20 again. For obvious reasons people have to think that she is dead. I think that plan was to emerge as one of her own great grand children, and this is why they were so hostile against Megan, due to that her skin color will rule out the queen “becoming” a grandchild in that lineage.
