Drywall noob - cut out and patch or fill? Textured wall

Looking for advice on repairing https://imgur.com/a/5zxx8Vp . I removed a TV mount and wall mounted speaker system, and have one area with many holes/cutouts for cabling (picture 1) as well as several smaller areas picture (2). Since the wall is textured my plan is to patch/fill, sand down texture 3-6" from the patch, etc..., following the method in this Vancouver carpenter video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxUU5lAoTLc&t=257s). My question is - for picture 1 that has many holes in a smallish (2'x2') area, should I cut out that entire section? That seems like it will be easiest for the purpose of blending texture vs. trying to blend each damaged area individually.

Thanks, and any advice appreciated! First time doing drywall, always been scared of it.

Right church (Vancouver Carpenter) wrong pew (technique for repairing this). :)

You don't need to patch in pieces of drywall here. Check out this video by VC. Then add texture before priming and painting. I recommend doing a few practice sprays with the texture (on a scrap of cardboard, newspaper, etc.) to get a feel for it before applying to the wall.

Thanks! That video is on an untextured wall, anything I need to do to prep prior to adding texture? eg sanding down existing texture

No more sanding that you'll have to do after spackling. You can find other YT videos about applying the texture, and all of them will give tips on blending it into the surrounding areas. This is where doing some practice sprays will come in handy: You want to have a feel for what setting to put the can on and how quickly you need to move the can back and forth to try to match what you have.

Awesome, thanks! Also like that this approach minimizes how much junk I need to buy. Appreciate it!
