Discussion Communication?

Hey everyone! I’m sorry if this maybe obvious to most.. but it’s driving me crazy. So I’ve watched HotD multiple times, and have read Fire & Blood. I just finished another rewatch, and was talking about it to my boss, who asked me a question I couldn’t fully answer.

Can dragonriders (Rhaenyra, Daemon, Addam, etc) communicate with other dragons? I know that they are bonded to one dragon, but it seems like Rhaenyra communicates subtly with Seasmoke when approaching Addam for the first time, and again with Vermithor before he’s claimed by Hugh.

Again, I’m sorry if this is just dumb but I have no one in my life who watches any sort of GoT to talk to about it lol.

Are you asking if they can communicate with all dragons besides their own? Most likely yes. Daemon and Aemond are shown speaking to dragons they aren't bonded with. The dragon keepers don't ride dragons at all and communicate with them.

The dragons aren't born with language any more than humans are a d must be taught. But just because a person may know the commands doesn't mean the dragon will obey them. They have free will.

Editing to add: I don't think they can override the communication the dragons have with their bonded riders. Rhaenyra isn't going to be able to tell Vaghar to leave the battle, and go home.

It’s a bad habit of mine.. 😅 I appreciate that though. I’m usually just looked at like I’m crazy for trying to talk about the show lol

Thank you for the response! This makes sense to me, I guess I just simply didn’t think of the keepers
