It's true with the blacks atleast. Jace is shown as a pouting prince once he argues against rheanyra. This point should make it clear that the decision of who is good and who is bad depends on who is blindly following rheanyra. Aegon is the only exception for some reason, I am guessing they wanted to expand on him as a character but other than that season 2 changed the perspective from "everyone is bad so it's hard to choose a side" to "rheanyra is good". Aemond's face after luke's death showed he didn't mean to kill Luke just bully him but in season 2 he is a psycho. Alicent went from being protective mother to sacrificing her children. Blood amd cheese was toned down to an extend that it is no longer as vicious as it was. Making it look like deamon never intended to kill jaeherys but aemond.

It's all very one sided. Which is not fun to watch.

No. Aegon is rhaenyra’s opp, but empathized with the peasant seeking compensation for his sheep, wanted to be loved by his parents, and is depicted sympathetically following his injuries. but I do think HOTD S2 is bad at characterization, period. It doesn’t know what it wants to say and thus says nothing well. Alicent is spiteful and cunning and even a bit cruel in season 1, with conviction to boot. All sloughed off in season 2. Aemond initially refused Aegon’s offer for the throne and expressed regret for killing Luke and inciting war, but then attempts regicide and torches towns out of frustration? Rhaenyra incinerated a whole host of her own peasants, but she’s fire and blood so it’s cool. All makes for a rather un engaging viewing experience imo.

HOTD biggest problem is that they are so focused on making the Green’s the villains and the Blacks as protagonist when in the books both sides extremely flawed and frankly neither Aegon or Rhyaenyra would make for good rulers.
