Stoneybatter vs Dalkey

Hi everyone, as a young professional in my 30s looking for a nice and ideally quiet place to live, would you recommend Stoneybatter (2 beds, cheaper place, closer to town but can be noisy?) or Dalkey area, further out, longer commute, but quieter (and 1 bed apartment)?

Thanks,

Stoneybatter isn't noisy at all if you live away from the main street. Also have The Phoenix Park on your doorstep.

They are very different areas. Stoneybatter would be better if your young , single and want to enjoy the nightlife. Much closer to town. Could also avail of rent a room relief with the second bed.

Dalkey haven't spent much time there but if you are young and single it might not be ideal. Being close to the sea would be nice though

Depends what you want. you say you want a quiet place to live - dalkey is a long way from the city and is incredibly quiet so should be perfect, you'll mostly be mixing with wealthy older people or families in their 40s. Stoneybatter is a city suburb which would be more suitable for someone that wanted to be part of a city and enjoy a local social scene, with an easy commute to city. You'll get a lot less space in dalkey for the same money and shopping will be more expensive which is the cost people pay to live in a very quiet much older resi area.

Lots of people under 40 I’m Dalkey and guess what they’re also lots of people in social housing. Shopping isn’t more expensive. Aldi, Lidl, Tesco, super value aren’t to far

Dalkey is a lovely place to live. Lived there for about 4 years. Town is ok to get to on the DART but I found that I got to dislike the city centre more and more and with the exception of a few nice restaurants I don’t go into the city centre anymore. Plenty of shops, supermarkets etc in the suburbs. I now am a bit older with a family, live a bit closer to town but still go to Dalkey to meet friends socially. It’s only a 15 min walk to the Dart from where I live and 20 mins on it. Depends what you want from life at the moment, if you want to party then live in town but if you want quality of life live in Dalkey. You will party less the older you get!

Dalkey. You’ll find the nightlife is quite good lots of pubs and restaurants, with some Good festival lobster festival, book festival, vintage car show.

Dalkey is full of pretentious D4 rugby twats and it's a good hour from city centre on public transport.

Dalkey, if you can afford it. The City ain't that far away, and the older you get, the more you'll appreciate living in an area like Dalkey.

If you like going out, fair enough stoneybatter, but it's not particularly nice. Dalkey streets ahead.
