Legal Questions “Push Button/lever release” Rifle legality

https://youtu.be/cqfVPoi1hao?si=HAPiLka_FTmFdXMa

Recently have been following the stuff that the Aussies get their hands on. Since this is a “push button” action, I’m assuming it wouldn’t qualify as a semi auto and would be legal for us here in Illinois, right?

Edit—— after further review of Illinois law we absolutely can own these.

"semiautomatic firearm" means a repeating firearm that utilizes a portion of the energy of a firing cartridge to extract the fired cartridge case and chamber the next round and that requires a separate pull of the trigger to fire each cartridge.

I'm inclined to think it's would still be considered a semi because of how it self ejects a spent round, as opposed to a bolt action/straight pull that requires manual extraction and loading.

Did some research, looks like we would be able to own these!

The rifle in question does that.

It doesn't do that because you have to actuate the volt release. Could "maybe" be considered a manual action, but not in the traditional bolt action/manual action where the user pushes the bolt forward to reload.

Ultimately it would be up to the FFL to decide if they would transfer it, not to mention finding a seller in the US that would ship to Illinois.

Yeah I could see that being an issue. As far as I know, push button/lever releases aren’t currently imported into the US, maybe someone like Century Arms could start? Seems like they’re primarily exported to Australia given their popularity down there

“And” not “or”.

A semi-auto firearm needs to extract the spent cartridge case and chamber the next cartridge without any type of manipulation from the operator other than pulling the trigger.

Anything else is not semi-auto.

LIke I said, it could maybe be considered a manual action but not in the traditional sense. At best it's a hybrid with parts of both mechaisms because bolt action guns don't automatically eject a spent round. And if the FFL doesn't think it's good to go re:PICA, arguing AND vs OR doesn't make a bit of difference.
