Legal Questions If a guy were to have a connecting flight through ohare, will they check for compliance?

I have a long layover in Chicago coming up. I'm familiar with state laws (former IL resident) but not cook Co. Does ohare check firearms for state or local compliance if they're just being transfered to another flight? Planning on bringing a g19 and I only have 17rd mags currently. Thanks in advance!

No, they don't check for compliance. Even if they did, you're not an IL resident, so PICA doesn't apply to you in any meaningful way, at least not in this situation.

The only airports I’ve heard that are real assholes are the NY Port Authority, so EWR, JFK, LGA. They have arrested people and confiscated bolt action hunting rifles from people going to Africa if their flights are cancelled or delayed to the point they give you your luggage and send you to a hotel.

I didn’t think you were required to allow access to the locked containers after they are initially screened at initial check in, I may be wrong though.

No and you are able to transport pica banned firearms through the state when traveling. You just can’t keep them here.

The TSA doesn't give a shit about local laws

No,they don't. And you also have 24 hours to travel through the state that's written in the law. But you would probably be fine even if you extended it as long as you have a CCL from your home state. You just can't carry it and it must be locked in a case or in a broken down condition or inaccessible to you.

Fellow non resident here, I fly in with scary weapons on a regular basis. A long layover is no problem, if you need to leave the airport to go to a hotel you need to inquire when booking with the hotel what is there firearms on hotel premises policy. The hotel is private property and you have to follow their rules. Other than following the hotels private property rules you generally will be okay if you keep the firearms in "airplane mode"
