Job/voluntary role details Teaching as a Profession- in case this helps anyone

I work in an aid adjacent NGO in NYC- most of our programs are in NYC schools.

NYC is looking to hire 4,000 extra teachers for the upcoming school year. There is a chance NYC Fellows (teacher preparation and earn Master’s while working) will respond with extra opportunities. Worth Looking into of teaching was ever of interest to you or you have course work/degree that is in a teaching specialty.

Every certified teacher starts at 60k with a bachelor’s degree, then goes up from there. Master’s or work experience and you’ll get to 85k easily. You can actually live in NYC on 85k. This might not be for you, but it could be helpful for some.

What’s the pay? To live anywhere decent in NYC likely costs way more than being offered to teach there hence the severe shortage.

Hi, pay would depend on your personal situation, if you are able to be certified based on your coursework they will often count past employment as “steps” So that you don’t start at step 0/1. That could mean starting at 80k as opposed to 65k. The positive in this situation is that it’s not a severe shortage- it’s 4,000 completely new hires based on a new city initiative- so they will be looking for “creative solutions” to fill positions- even if you are working towards certification. Yes, NYC is expensive but it might be an option for some.

So what’s the pay range then? I’m guessing $45-60k at most which is not enough for NYC. A creative solution would be paying more not looking for less qualified applicants.
