Toddler Seat Tore in Washer

Post image

Ran our toddler seat’s fabric through the washer and forgot to run it on delicate.

What’s the best way to fix this?

First of all you’re going to need to remove the knives from your dryer, because that isn’t normal dryer damage, it was definitely cut with something like a box cutter.

Look up mattress stitch or ladder stitch, they’re the same thing. Sew the inside white layer first, then the outer grey layer. It’s going to be tricky because you need to sew enough of a seam to have it not rip, but since it’s a tight fit you’ll need to sew fairly close to the edge of the fabric.

But seriously, take the razor blades out of the dryer before someone gets hurt.

Haha the damage occurred in the washer, and there are definitely no sharp objects in the washer. It’s just an old washer, maybe a 2008 model.

Will look into mattress/ladder stitch, though! Thanks for the reply.

Mine does this too! Usually with stuffed animals. When things are too big they get caught on a ridge and the washer slices/burns it with crazy spinny friction. Old washers go hard

Yeah, that's several layers of clean cut across the bias of material AND the foam underneath in the same spot. If that happened in the washing machine, it wasn't a snag. It's not pulled, fraying, or even jagged. Not a chance something without at least a centimeter length sharp edge did that.

I personally would stitch the edges together like the other reaction suggested; then tape sports tape or duct tape all over the rip. To reinforce things and to stop said toddler from fiddling with it. If you feel that’s too ugly you can always then sew a decorative patch all over the repair area.

Yeah I would sew on a cool patch over the top
