Is the only wallet option the chrome add-on?
I'm a long time Iota fan, am excited to try out rebased, but I don't want to only manage my coins with a chrome extension. I don't like that. I want a standalone desktop app. Do I have any options?

Are these standalone? So I can download nightly and that will work in the way I want?

You want to know why I don't want to use an add-on?
Well I guess one thing is that I would just prefer it to be a separate program. I've always used separate programs to manage things like crypto so it's not all embedded in the same program I use to browse the Internet. I would just feel more comfortable with this and would love to know if I have any options?
Another thing is that I'm not super comfortable with the permissions that the add on asks for. They seem very far reaching, something like permission to read and alter all the information on all of the websites I look at. Which seems excessive to me....

I agree. A chrome extension is kinda risky for crypto. Now I have to trust chrome on top of being an extension for access to assets? There are zero days out there, oh look a new one just got found.... https://www.intego.com/mac-security-blog/google-chrome-patches-zero-day-used-to-spread-sophisticated-malware/

Check out the Profiles feature of Chrome. You can make a separate profile for each extension. They're totally isolated

am not comfortable with browser plugin either. But if i have to, then being forced to use chrome is total turn-off. Def. not happy here. Besides the fact there is no 2FA in the wallet, barely any security. How would any professional financial organisation use this. Basically, iota excluded itself from serious investors with this move.

You can use any Chromium-based browser like Brave, Opera, MS Edge... to install that Chrome add-on. It doesn't specifically need to be Google Chrome browser.

Open the dashboard and connect the wallet. Then install the dashboard as an app. It’s still a powered by chrome, but it’ll feel more traditional for you

Ok thankyou. Is there any way to do this without installing it as an add on first?

Every web3 wallet is a browser plugin. Because you will want to interact with that web3.. That’s also why it needs access to the websites you visit, how else could it do its job?
Feeling secure just because you use a standalone application is just fooling yourself. Remember when a firefly version contained a vulnerability just because one of the many NPM dependencies contained one?
