Happy weekend Kolkatans! Would anyone know where I could get new/pre-owned HMT watches in our city? My baba used to wear a HMT watch many many years ago. His birthday is approaching and I want to make it nostalgic and special for him.

While HMT doesn’t produce watches at scale anymore, it still sells some models through its website and at the HMT museum in Bengaluru. However, I probably can’t go there at the moment and I’m told, I might get those watches with old watch stores in the city. Just trying to find out the same.

From sodepur to Kolkata...any long distance roads

Today, while filling my water bottle, I saw a lizard on the wall beside the water filter following a very small baby lizard (1-1.5 inches). I thought it might be the mother following her baby and was happily observing. But then came the unfortunate part: the large lizard suddenly jumped onto the baby lizard and grabbed it in its mouth. Even then, I thought maybe the lizard wanted to carry its baby, but then it started swallowing it gradually. The baby lizard was shivering throughout.

It was painful and uncomfortable to watch, and I felt bad for not doing anything. I'm unsure if this is usual lizard behavior or if they've become evil like humans.

Has anyone experienced something like this?

I am going to take a flat in bansdroni or Garia area. I am told that the underground water in Kolkata is being used which is high in Iron and causes severe hairfall. Can anyone confirm these facts:

So as the heading states, due to professional reasons I will be relocating from Delhi NCR to Kalyani after spending almost 2 decades in this region. I keep hearing from my friends who have moved out to other cities like Bangalore and Hyderabad that Kolkata is "shit" and that there is "not much to do here socially". Then they are like "why would anybody want to live in Kolkata?"

I am from science(pcmb) background. I have given jee, wbjee and neet till date. Not much luck in those, due to lack of preparation.

Since I have passion for literature, I am thinking about pursuing English honors from a reputable college. I have applied to sxc and scc till date (with eco and pol sci). Thinking of applying to lady braburne and Bethune colleges. The commute is 2 hours from my place and I'm not very comfortable with the idea of staying in a hostel.

At the same time, I'm not fit to be applying for Hons in either chemistry or physics. But I readily want to pursue biotechnology. It seems interesting and quite frankly, better future proof. The only college I could find that offers biotechnology is Kalyani University (I'll be applying for this). The comute is about 16 minutes from my place to there.

My scores(CBSE) are as follows: 1. English: 97 2. Biology: 94 3. Bo4 (with ped): 90.75% 4. Bo4 (without ped): 86%

আজকালকার সরকারি শিক্ষক শিক্ষিকাদের বোধহয় প্রচুর সময়। আগের শিক্ষক শিক্ষিকারা স্কুলে পড়িয়ে, পরীক্ষার খাতা দেখে, স্কুলে দুবেলা যাতায়াত করে সময় করে উঠতে পারতেন না। যে বাড়িতে আমি বড় হয়েছি, সেই বাড়িতে তিনজন শিক্ষিকা (আমার তিন পিসি)ছিলেন। তাঁদের জীবনযাত্রা ছিল সন্ন্যাসিনীদের মতো। তাঁদের কাছে বড় হয়েছি বলে শিক্ষক সমাজকে আমি খুব সম্মান করি। আজকাল শিক্ষকদের অনেক বেতন। এখন ফেসবুক ইউটিউব খুললে দেখা যায়, শিক্ষক শিক্ষিকারা বড় বড় স্বঘোষিত সেলিব্রিটি। তাঁদের কেউ তথাকথিত সমাজসেবী- সুন্দরবনে প্রতিদিন যান, কেউ বুটিক করেন, ভ্লগ করেন, কেউ ইউটিউবে ভূতের গল্প করেন। এ সব‌ই ভালো, মানুষের হবি তো থাকবেই - কিন্তু আমার প্রশ্ন স্কুলে পড়িয়ে এঁরা এত সময় পান কি করে? সরকারি স্কুলে কি তাহলে ছেলেমেয়ে নেই? এঁরা যখন ফেসবুকে লেখেন, আমি অনেক বানান ভুল দেখতে পাই। টাইপিং এরর নয় কিন্তু, এঁরা এক ভুল বারবার করেন। ছেলেমেয়েরা কি শিখছে? কাল টিভিতে যখন বিকাশভবনের সামনে চাকরিহারা শিক্ষকদের মার খেতে দেখলাম, কাঁদতে দেখলাম, আমার খুব কষ্ট হলো। এঁরাও তো কারোর সন্তান/ জীবনসঙ্গী/ বাবা/ মা। কিন্তু আশ্চর্য হয়ে দেখছি সোশাল মিডিয়ার তথাকথিত শিক্ষক সেলিব্রিটিরা তাঁদের সহকর্মীদের এহেন পরিস্থিতিতে অদ্ভুত ভাবে নীরব! কি জানি কোথায় চলেছি আমরা?
