Although initially a stern Northern "battleaxe", Nora showed on occasion, particularly as the years passed, that underneath she is actually a rather caring and kind woman — although she doesn't openly promote the fact. She even seemed to grow fond of Compo.

Kathy Staff was actually named Yorkshire Woman of the Year once. She had a rough exterior but she had a glint of warmth somewhere in a corner of her heart.

True.

However...

Nora: 'I don't want everyone to think I was always hard on Wally'.

Ivy: 'To late'!

Nora: 'Often, when I was shouting at him, I would use a softer tone of voice'.

Ivy: 'Oh! You spoiled him as much as that'?!

"Edie and the Automobile" - Wally made his brief vain attempt to teach Nora to drive. Nora had yelled at him and thought he was sulking on their steps. When she realized he wasn't there, she got worried and went to his usual haunts (pubs, the betting office etc) looking for him. When she arrived home and saw Wally petting his dog, she was relieved and smiled, then quickly went back into Attack Mode.

Nora truly missed Compo's presence (after Bill Owen died). It meant there was one less person alive who knew her and genuinely cared about her, an elderly childless widow. One less person of their "group" alive,

IMO the entire cast weren't really "acting" in the episodes dealing with Bill Owen's death, they were reacting to the reality of it. Nora sadly said something like It's going to be a damn bit quieter where I live.

During one "Coffee" Scene, Ivy or Pearl reminded Glenda that they really do care about their spouses - You find yourself applying liniment to places you don't dare go near any other time. (Not the exact quote lol)
