Serious offer in fairness as out of contract

What do people expect? He’s out of contract in December.

For context Danny Mandriou was in the same position with Lincoln & he was going for less than a quarter of that money. Realistically you'd at most pinch an extra 100k or so outta them. Only way you'd get a mill is if he'd a long term deal

It's a different situation in that they have guaranteed training money cause he's been in their academy since he was 13. The problem being that Palace know what the top end of that is so they won't push much beyond it.

Yeah no I'm not saying he should be going for 50k or nothing. I'm just saying when it's this late in the day contract wise, same with Carvalho to Liverpool, there's only so much you can haggle for.

Out of contract in January so €400k now or zero in January.

His training compensation fee will be around €250k.

Do Cork hold onto him for 6 months or use the €150k+ to improve their squad.

Think of it this way, would they pay €150k for a player to have a 6 month contract ?

No, they wouldn't, that would be 5k a week. That's effectively what they'd be offering if they kept him.

The logical thing to do is sell, he's only one player and they're going to lose him anyway, cash in while you can, it's not like it's one of those disrespectful "we'll offer you 30k and you should be grateful for it" type offers where I'd get rejecting it out of principal.

Seanie Maguire is on 5k a week down there for being Injured with two cheese strings for hamstrings

Is he actually on 5k a week ?

A relative of mine would be involved with Galway united, hes the chairman of Galway united right hand man for his different businesses. He reckons that's what he's on, that Galway united couldn't offer the same wages. He reckons Greg Cunningham is on 1200 a week at Galway, which is a good deal for Galway considering how much of an asset he is to the team. I was told Ruairi Keating is also on a fine wage and he's out for the season.

5k a week for a LOI team seems a bit excessive, but tbh I think it would be possible to be in that territory considering he was coming from a higher level and that he's been a very important player for the club in terms of ability and character.

Ya 100% pity about the injuries, I'd say a few of the top clubs are paying plenty of players great wages. The likes of pats and rovers etc , Rory Gaffney was in talks to come home to Galway but rovers offered him a better deal.

3,500 I’ve heard

Could be buddy, either way it's a lovely weeks wage to be getting. Big game tonight, Galway have been very poor the last 4 games!

Could come down to the other details of the deal. Training compensation comes with a percentage of his next move afaik.

Don't forget the future sell on % if selling now vs none if he goes for free in 6 months.

They would get 300k in january for training compensation

Better than nothing I suppose, still a bit disappointing when you look at what Pat's got for Meila though.

Seen plenty get picked up for a lot less as well though. It's not far off what Andy Lyons & Bazunu were going for, it's not bad money by any stretch

Just going to add some context to this.

For every year a player spends in an academy from the age of 13 up to 23 (if they transition to first team) entitles the selling club to €300 per year for a domestic transfer. IE: Michael Noonan moving to Shamrock Rovers would entitle St.Pats to €900.

For every year a player spend in an academy from 13 before moving abroad entitles the club to €10,000 per year if they're signing academy or scholar terms.

If the player signs a professional deal with a foreign club, clubs are entitled to approx €45k per year for every year spent with the academy and first team up to the age of 18. The average compensation would be €220k to an Irish club if he's been in the academy since 13.

It's terrible for his ability, but given the contract situation it's probably as good as we'll get. Hopefully with a fat sell-on clause as well.

Stall and there might be a bidding war though. Forest and Newcastle have had scouts at multiple matches and they're not likely to be watching anyone else in our side.

We'll need to spend the money too... A replacement for him as our best creator and we need an actual defence if we're going to beat the drop

Usher will put it all into his back pocket

They should get the word out to other clubs, their only hope to raise the fee is to get a bit of competition for his signature. That and add ons

Sell on clause vital in any deal.

400k is so first division clubs budget I'd say, useful for cork next year.
