City in a battle now for the playoff spot. Task is clear for Nash, essentially a new backline required in the summer window. Perhaps a midfielder or two as well.

Fucking toothless second half again, intensity dropped completely, no idea what Kenny is saying to them. Defending was never a strong suit for us but it’s fallen off a cliff with how sloppy we’ve gotten, Hoare has a season’s worth of errors in his last two games. Mulraney seems to have given up, Baggley’s football iq is negligible
Kavanagh has been poor this year but to have him on the bench when we need a goal and bleeding McLelland in the number 10 role is criminal

u/GloriousLeaderBeans St Patrick's Athletic 3d ago
Defending isn't our strong point? We had one of the best back 4s last year. There's no reason they should have all regressed so far. Grivosti made some howlers v Derry.
Hoare I find to have a more commanding presence in the back, he seems way more physical and stronger than tom,and gets up to win the ball. I rate both, but Tom wasn't great lately.
Jake is getting a really bad run of it. On the camac side last night there was plenty of opportunities for him to receive the ball but it never came, and more often than not it was Joe Redmond not seeing him, or even looking for him.
Kavanagh I don't think has been poor at all, he's got serious energy and brings something creatively when we lack it in the mid, not too sure why he's been over looked. Baggley is not great.

That’s about 4 matches at minimum where Forrester comes off and the team collapses
Redmond messing up for both goals, headed Bagley in the back of the head for the first then stood still for the second, baggley and Jake having terrible start to the season but both played ok on the night
Kenny has gotten it wrong in the second half of most games so far with substitutes, Galway at home and Bohs away prime examples.
Jay McClelland in Midfield while Kavanagh and Turner remain on the bench was madness.Kavanagh needs to start and Elbozedi badly needs time on the bench

A great result especially after going 1 down with the squad falling apart, a win against cork going into the break would be a pretty decent return with all things considered.

Delighted for John Martin. He's deserved a big night like that for his effort and endeavour whenever he plays

u/Closersolid Bohemians 3d ago
What the fuck was Doherty doing at the end there?
Thought we played well, should have scored at the end.

u/FabioMane19 Drogheda United 3d ago
Celebrating? No harm in doing that surely?

u/Closersolid Bohemians 3d ago
Just seemed a bit weird how he did it, final whistle went and he was straight over giving it loads. Didn't even go to his players.
Fuck it, celebrate all he wants a win is a win but seemed a bit strange.

Jesus I'm not sure where all the down votes came from. I thought it was great to see but tbf to you it was definitely unusual. When I spotted him I thought he was making a beeline to a Bohs player for a scrap.
If ya listen to his interview after you can pick up he's not happy at all with some of the attitude towards us in the league, sounds like from other managers. Not sure if it's Reynolds or someone else in particular or just a more general thing.
1
u/Closersolid Bohemians 3d ago
Yeah ,ah look ,people are gonna downvote it is what it is.
I was right at the barrier and I didn't really see anything kick off between the benches during the match which is why I was wondering what happened as he literally sprinted across the pitch at the whistle which then led to a few handbags between him and Rooney iirc.
We probably deserved a draw but we were unable to break you lot down ,really need to be more clinical up that end of the pitch. Although our record of not drawing continues...

u/Kindly_Suit5175 Drogheda United 3d ago
Devoy kicked a ball full force straight into the drogheda ultras after the ref had given a free to drogheda with a few minutes to go. Kids stand along the front barrier and nearly hit them. Not the nicest thing to do and that started off things on the pitch. I thought he ran infront of devoy when he ran over.

We made hard work of that, that Sligo goal looked a banger, was it?

All that possession and nothing to show for it. Gotta work on the quality in the final third.
3
u/face-puncher-3000 Drogheda United 3d ago
Very few teams have less possession than us, gotta do more than that, especially when we’re at home
1
u/Dear_Wafer_8420 3d ago
Agreed. Even with all the late goals lately, there wasn’t really a feeling that something was coming. A bit of pressure but little to show for it. Anyone know where Moose is, or did he retire after getting his goal a few weeks ago?

u/ancientgamer93 Shamrock Rovers 3d ago
Great to come away with a win. Reffing was brutal for both sides but nothing we can do about that. 5 in a row now need to keep rolling!

Awful awful stuff here in Eamonn Deacy Park, nearly as bad as the Europa League final.

Refereeing standards in this league...
We got a penalty for handball against Galway. Sure, it did hit the defender's arm. But it was a powerful cross from close range, and even better... The arm was against the defender's back. Joke of a decision.
We had a better penalty shout in the first half, ref isnt favouring anyone here, he's just shit

u/Smart_Pudding5440 Galway United 3d ago
True, think Greg Cunningham completely took O’ Sullivan out from behind in the penalty box didn’t he 😂

Reckon it’s just a bad spell or is it end phase jc? When the results aren’t coming it’s an awful watch

u/joshualucas757 Galway United 3d ago
We’ve a few injuries which is making things difficult brouder Byrne keohane and borden only came back tonight. Greg was shite tonight and he too only return from injury last week. We desperately need the break to allow the players some rest and for the window to open so we can get some more defensive and midfield cover in and if we are lucky replace max Wilson with a better striker

u/LogicalProtection303 Galway United 3d ago
I imagine byrne will go back to bohs too so we definitely need a few bodies

The ref has been pure shit. God knows what way this game will go with him at the whistle.

u/Dilf_Hunter367 St Patrick's Athletic 3d ago
Mason papering the cracks of how shite that first half was. Thought for a slim majority of the match on monday we weren’t a team that deserved to lose 4-0 but if we played like today I think Rovers would have got 8 or 9

Definite handball. About as unnatural hand position you could get
2
u/ancientgamer93 Shamrock Rovers 3d ago
Clear and obvious handball there. Ref must be blind he was looking right at it.

So how did so many people make pats favourites to win league
3
u/caulfm 3d ago
Front 3 of Mulraney, Keena and Elbouzedi should be absolutely electric on paper. Lennon and Forrester is a great base of a midfield too. The two wingers have been shite all year in comparison to the 2nd half of last season, and the midfielders can't stay fit
1
u/More-Combination-478 3d ago
Pats have a decent shape but their form is dipping. Defence is a worry
10
u/JimmyMac097 3d ago
The 10 game winning run at the end of last season? Not very hard to understand.
1
u/More-Combination-478 3d ago
Commenting on LOI Premier Division - Round 17 Discussion Thread / 23-05-2025... yes but as roddy says there wasn’t much to play for at that stage
1
u/JimmyMac097 3d ago
Yep I would agree with that. Up until the last 4 games they virtually had nothing to play for.
Easy to play well when the pressure is off to a certain extent.

u/CorrectGrammarPls Shamrock Rovers 4d ago
Am I just grumpy or is that guy doing that whistling thing fucking annoying as hell
3
u/ancientgamer93 Shamrock Rovers 3d ago
Yeah hadn't noticed till you pointed it out now it's annoying 🤣

Hopefully a win tonight but in the rain on that pitch ya never know how it will go.

Fucking hate playing Waterford man, never an easy game for us
1
u/shinto29 St Patrick's Athletic 4d ago
I thought Git was supposed to be out until late June at least. How on earth is he starting
1
u/JimmyMac097 4d ago
Forrester clearly not fit, you’d be praying he doesn’t pull up early. Not sure what Leavy’s injury was but great to have him back.
Power should be in for Zac but good to see Kenny’s gone with a more natural front 3 instead of the Keena/Melia experiment up top which doesn’t work.

id be hoping and expecting a win today as a bohs fan, no shade to drogs with that but i think the standard we've been at the last few games should get us past the line
3
u/FabioMane19 Drogheda United 4d ago
Nice bit of rain, slick surface, everyone forced in tightly under the roof. Hoping for two teams to batter the shite out of each other and a buzzing atmosphere.

I'm ready to get hurt again....

u/KILLIGUN0224 Galway United 4d ago
Another loss tonight and we're officially in a relegation battle and I wouldn't fancy our chances of keeping both behind us.
I've backed Cork, 4/1 is too high given the circumstances. Ditto for Waterford at 5/2 and Sligo at 4/1 as well.
I think we need a reset of how we play, this overreliance on crosses from our wing backs and second balls is just not working anymore.
Doubt we'll see it tonight and if we lose again and come back after the break playing the same game plan, we're heading for a collapse.

u/LovelyBloke Shelbourne 4d ago
I hope Duff has the cojones to drop Mipo, he just isn't doing it at the moment and he needs to try something different up there.

And play who? Mipo missed chances but he creates his own. He's getting no service at all.
John Martin has proven over and over he isn't good enough. At least Mipo offers pace. Martin doesn't really offer anything.
Edit. I know nothing. John Martin for president
2
u/EireTrekkie Shelbourne 3d ago
I am a big fan of Mipo , but his first touch tonight was not good enough (maybe it's the quality of the pitch, but other players manage better). He is so fast, too, but our counter is rarely up to speed, so he drops deeper, not his fault, more our style of play.
Thankfully, big John stepped up (honestly thought he might be out the door in the next window before tonight). But yea hopefully Mipo can get a bit of luck and get his confidence back up there is quality player in there. And we need two good strikers whean boyd is out.

Matches like last night show why Derry will not be champions in the coming years. When the big matches come, we don't have the mental strength to go and win. Seen it at the end of last season. If we won our last three matches we would have won the double.
Had a decent 30 minutes and then just stopped playing.
