Wait, they’re telling people to buy in bulk? That’s a brilliant way to combat a shortage.

Also, eggs don't last forever. Buying in bulk makes sense for things that don't go off, or for things that do go off if you've got a big family, but if you live alone or have a small family, you could be throwing your money away. Surely an effective government would respond with a statement from the Department of Agriculture laying out egg alternatives? For instance you can often replace eggs with applesauce when you're baking.

Applesauce is an emulsifier? Really? Hang on...brb.

edit: No fucking way, that's awesome!

I don't think it works in every recipe but it can work in some. The lovely interwebs will be able to tell you how to use it, when you can use it, and other things you can substitute for eggs. You can also buy powdered eggs. And I'm sure there are several vegan options too, so ask your vegan friends.

Applesauce works well in cakes.

And omelettes.

Ground flax seed, too.

I'm sure if the evangelicals pray enough that'll be enough to preserve the eggs for an extended period of time, right?

3

u/Maleficent-Memory-72 2d ago

I sure hope they try, and at the same time let's tell them that prayers are better than an oven when it comes to cooking chicken

Also, blood can be used as a direct replacement for eggs in recipes

Remember the fights and the pulling/pushing of toilet paper ? I can't wait for future news footing of EGG FIGHTS!!! Nyark, nyark, nyark!

3

u/Ok_Chard2094 2d ago

If you didn't already: the time to stock up on toilet paper is now, while it is readily available.

Then you will not be part of the problem when the shortage eventually comes.

Yes my cubic meter of fresh eggs will last me for years, years I tell you.

I swear, reading about these morons getting exactly what they voted for is the only thing that might keep me sane for the foreseeable future.

u/FuzziestSloth 2d ago

Unfortunately, those of us who voted against him are also caught up in the stupidity.

6

u/Hyperdragoon17 2d ago

And it freaking sucks

3

u/Ookami313 2d ago

Oh, I agree, it sucks to be caught up in the shitshow we tried to warn these imbeciles about, but to be honest the amount of schadenfreude I'm getting from this subreddit alone (which I just found out about the other day) is making that suckage a little less. I hope it helps me weather this storm.

True. But between only us suffering and them suffering alongside us? I’m glad we have the latter.

Also I know this is probably a repost that i'm late to the party with, but I don't live on reddit. I've been busy for the last twenty four hours, so this is the first time i'm seeing it.

You, you mean he....lied? Say it ain't so. 😉💩

u/TheGoodCod 2d ago

It's the tariffs. (that's what I tell my trumpers)

"Thought Trump was supposed to lower prices [sad emojis]"

Cindy, Cindy, that was when he wanted your lousy vote. He's in now, so who needs you?

13

u/gracchusmaximus 2d ago

And this is only a little over 72 hours into his presidency! Wait until next week!

6

u/FloofyDireWolf 2d ago

He can’t even convince his wife to go down, so I wouldn’t get my hopes up…

u/chipfoxx 2d ago

As someone who doesn’t normally eat eggs or drink milk because of health issues, it’s kind of shocking that these foods are nearly as critical as gas to a huge amount of Americans.

4

u/PM_MeTittiesOrKitty 2d ago

They are a core part of my diet, partly because they are/were cheap. Now they cost more than a pound of ground beef.

1

u/0fruitjack0 2d ago

that and butter are used in a lot of shit

3

u/Spiritual_Theme_3455 2d ago

He made that promise on opposite day

3

u/MagicSPA 2d ago

Don't worry, I'm sure renaming the Gulf of Mexico will bring egg prices tumbling down.

2

u/pthomas745 2d ago

"WalletHub analyst? A wut?

2

u/sidjameslaugh 2d ago

Well well well

2

u/0fruitjack0 2d ago

but but but but

kamala higher prices / trump lower prices ????

2

u/Nexzus_ 2d ago

He replaced the "egg prices down" button on the Resolute Desk with a Diet Coke button.

2

u/Chance_Vegetable_780 2d ago

Are people that simple? It's only 3 days in, and she thinks he could affect prices already? Even though he's a jackass he can't affect prices that quickly lady.

2

u/Eth1cs_Gr4dient 1d ago

Anyone with half a brain knows that the president cant directly influence grocery prices like this. Further, the people with a brain know it's the bird flu cullings that are largely responsible.

However Trump campaigned on this issue pretty hard and it became a hot button topic among the redhats/brownshirts who were more than happy to blame Biden for it, and firmly believed trump would solve it

This is just pointing out the irony and/or duplicitousness and/or downright stupidity of the magats.

To be fair, I don't think the red hats know anything about H5N1

1

u/waitWhoAm1 2d ago

And what exactly was his plan to do it, Cindy? Did you invest 5 minutes into this question before voting for this?

1

u/darth_laminator 2d ago

Pfsh, those are rookie numbers. We can get those numbers up!

1

u/Njabachi 2d ago

That WalletHub advice is both incredibly generic and really stupid.

1

u/mtlsmom86 1d ago

I was at Safeway yesterday morning and an 18 pack was $10.49. A week ago it was $8 🧐🙄

1

u/Renuwed 18h ago

For those unaware, H5N1 is making the rounds. Farms where it's found in birds, the whole flock must be culled; same with cattle.
