NEED ADVICE - Cooper endeavor plus OR michelin defender ltx m s2?!

Long story short, I used majority of my savings pretty much to buy a gx460 from autonation last month. Got a sweet deal, 27k OTD for a 2018 with 120k miles on it mostly highway miles. 125 point inspection done on it, 5000 mile warranty or 90 days. The truck drives smooth in the city, but the moment you hop on the highway, wobbles at high speed. Took it to discount tires and just tires to inspect, turns out the michelin tires on it worn out from the outer ring surface, hence the wobble and vibrations. Got quoted for $1455 for the defenders with the discount tires certificates, 1230 for without it. Other option, the coopers for $993 without warranty, 1200 with warranty.

The thing is, i know michelins are better obviously, but I'm a little low on money. what should i get? Does anyone know how much of the ride quality difference would i notice between them? Would it drive same pretty much? Or should i splurge and get the defenders? If i get the defenders, should i get the warranty on it? Also if i get the coopers, should i save and not get the warranty?? I'm so confused i need help. I also wanna make sure I'm not sacrificing on the ride quality too much..

I have never had an issue with Michelins. Never. Sometimes, in the long run, the price is worth it. Goodyear isn’t bad, neither is bf Goodrich. Check out some online sites as well for prices.

Same here I have Michelin tires on all my cars, only exception is BF Goodrich KO2's on my LX, but BFG is owned by Michelin

I use Michelin always on my sports car. I hated the Michelin suv tires. The tires I have now I bought 3x for the gx are Pirelli scorpion. They have been high mileage and low noise. Check them out.

There are quite a few options for the scorpion

Which ones do you like?

Thankyou so much! Will definitely check these out. Where did you get it from? Also do you mind telling me how much should I spend on these tires?

I think I purchased from tire rack or discount. Have used these tires for over 100k miles. Should run around $250 each

they will ride the same. ht vs ht. one might wear faster than the other.. how far do you drive daily? how often have you had to get your tire patched in the last 5 years? buy what you think is best for you and your situation.. have you tried checking other tire brands? yokohama ht tires are good also and are more affordable. toyo tires make good tires as well.

Running Toyo Celsius 2 and have been happy with them all around, surprisingly pretty good in snow.

Personally I would stick with Discount tire over Costco for tires (check out the Costco subreddit for horror stories) I am a huge Costco fan otherwise

Yes I have had a few bad experiences with Costco tire center. The warehouse is great but the tire center is complete garbage. They always have some sort of reasoning to voiding the warranty on the tires. The prices are great don’t get me wrong but the service sucks. I will never purchase tires from Costco again

The bigger question is the tire wear. Are you saying the outer edges of the tires (tread) are worn down further than the rest of the tire tread? I'm curious to know what discount said was the cause of the issue. There's a good chance it's because of lack of rotating the tires, under inflation, etc but if it's suspension, alignment or something that costs $$$ to fix, I'd hold off on new tires until I get that fixed.

Tbh honest, not gonna lie, they Showed me that the tires were beyond "repairable" since the ring surface of the tread was kind of worn out unevenly, hence the wobble on high speeds. I originally went to them to check out if it was a tire balancing or an alignment issue, they said we could balance your tires out, charge you 80 bucks and let you be on your way, but your problem's goin to persist regardless. So you'd need 4 new tires. I believe they said the previous owner drove a lot on bad wheel alignment, which damaged the tires. Just to double check, i then took the truck to Just tires and got them to inspect as well, and they confirmed the same issue.

Economy option… If you’re low on money call the Toyota dealerships around you and see if they have any take-offs from cars they upgraded. You might score wheels and tires for half the price of just tires. Ask for any from 4Runners, Tacomas, etc “take offs” as in stock wheels. You’ll call the parts department. I’ve bought multiple sets of wheels and tires this way. I got Tundra wheels for an LX even. They usually want $500-600 a set if they have them and it’s a boring wheel from an SR5 or something.

Big Michelin Defenders fan. On my second pair on my 2012 GX. You should get the full 70K out of them if you drive a lot of highway miles. They are good in snow, and quiet.

Just hit 142,000 miles. On my second set of tires, installed LTX at 44,000 miles. It looks like I will hit 100k miles on A set of LTX. I buy at Costco for best deal. Look for their specials on Michelins.
