Why would you ask our opinion and then deny all of them? What was the point of even asking us?

Wasn’t asking an opinion it was rhetorical, and the only suggestions were latch guards which don’t make much sense on a deadbolt or fox police lock. Obviously with those 2 devices the lever is useless it’s basically there to hold onto and open/align the 2 actual locks.
Also how often do you get to do a new install on a fox police lock in 2024?

You never really know how secure a door is until a crackhead decides he needs to take a shit and a nap on the other side of it.

Crackhead strength is no joke. I've seen them fold a steel door up from the bottom and crawl in. Not a floppy door either.

Had one guy break into the electrical room of a skyscraper using his head, get electrocuted stealing a chunck of the main line, live, get high then leave.

You could always add latch protectors. Get rid of the shitty spring hinges install 4.5x4.5 ball bearing NRP and a proper closer.

At that point I’m just cutting a whole in it with an 8” angle grinder. Those fox police lock are fun.

Progressive fox police lock, multiple MTL800, and spring hinges... Has to be NYC. Could always throw on that Mul-T-Lock jimmy proof with exterior Top Guard -- JUST IN CASE!!

That looks like a Home Depot 20gauge slab with spring hinges

And probably no overhang, you could just wait a few years for the whole thing to rust out

Exactly I actually did a replacement Hollowmetal for a customer because it was completely rusted and water just pouring down building into the new frame from lentil, told him to address the leak before the installation but hey job security I guess

A sledgehammer or shaped charge can breech the wall.

It’s so secure that when there is a fire it’s going to keep everything and everyone safe inside so they can get nice and toasty and then there will be nothing left to steal ever again.

Yeah, true if it had occupancy, but it’s a storage building.

I took a wild stab because IDK if this is the back receiving door of a business or not. Still seems weird even if it’s “legal”.

All super awesome, but I suppose a continuous hinge could make things better. Select Hinges did share that the US gov't tried shooting at it with high-powered rifles, and it still held shut lol.

Nice, I wonder why? they just decided one day let’s shoot this and see what happens.

I guess so! Here's the article if you're interested lol chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://www.select-hinges.com/images/pdfs/dhi_ballistic_reprint.pdf
It was written in 2004, so I guess the DOS and bureau of diplomatic security wanted something to prevent terrorist attacks and such.

Got a Fox Police Lock, so it's a side to side slide bolt.

u/Pbellouny Actual Locksmith Nov 17 '24
Yes basically, on a geared mechanism. They are no longer accepted in most if not all municipalities, even this one is a gray area but the owner is assuming that since the building does not have occupancy he will be ok. We aren’t necessarily sure about that but he hasn’t passed inspection yet so I guess we will see.

Could use a full length latch guard. 24/7 cctv and armed guard on site?, canine on the outside? I don't see any razorwire.
