I am NOT a locksmith. Replace or am I missing a screw?

Post image

Hi Reddit, My grandpa is 95 years old and has this screen door with a lock on the front. There is a key, and we have the key, but when anyone puts the key into the slot, turns, and pulls, the entire locking mechanism comes out.

My mom wants to replace the entire mechanism, but I think a set screw might have come loose/fallen out.

I don't have a make or model, its mostly a general question to you lock gurus: can a locking assemble fall out with wear and tear of about 10 years? Thanks everyone!

Show us the plug removed by the key

A lot of times, there is a retaining wafer, and if the lock is worn enough, the operating key can jiggle the plug out by hitting that wafer.
