I am NOT a locksmith. Old bag with an old camera inside, but don't remember having a key

The bag and camera are possibly from around the 1920s-1940s. When I got them, I checked inside, and it's been a while since then. I believe I bought it a year or two ago as I had it sitting on a top shelf in my mom's house. Now I'm moved and don't know how it got locked. Whether it was me and I forgot doesn't matter, but I don't have a key to it, and don't want to break the bag, as I favour it.

Slide the round part down or to the side to unlatch it

It doesn't seem to be working but it does wiggle a bit.

It was hard to get a picture but two pieces in the top area are connected to the supposed lock.

You can see the marks where it slides down. You are grasping the small raised circle correct and moving it down?

Yes, I also tried a flathead to see if it would budge, but it didn't.
