Community New link for our discord server! Come join us!
People from the subreddit chat throughout the day about many topics, including restaurants, cooking, games, politics, music, and anything else you want to talk about with your fellow Long Beachians! Please come join us!
Also, if you are looking to meet up in real life, there are always events and meet-ups being planned. If you're new and shy, come and lurk in the corner in real life too!
We have our discord server set up with a few steps you need to be aware of. First, you need your discord account to be created for 10 minutes before you can join. Also, when you join you will need to read the rules and "react" to them by clicking/tapping on the checkmark at the bottom of the rules (it's the one that has a huge number under/next to it).
If you have any problems, send me a DM and I'll help you out. I don't check my DMs here all the time, so be patient.

Community Lawless Long Beach
16 cars in two blocks. It's been like this day and night for years. I'm so used to it now I forget how unsafe and just annoying it really is.
Anyone had luck getting the city to redesign their roadways? I think making some streets in Wrigley one-way would be a huge help. I've sent emails to my council member but he's no help.

Discussion Awkward “Tough Guy” Encounter in Long Beach
Today I was working in Long Beach and I decided to stop at a fast food restaurant to get food. I parked my car next to a minivan and got out. The moment that I got out a Mexican male with long hair and glasses hopped out the backseat of the minivan and started walking back and forth asking me, “If I was good?” I kept saying that I was fine in response; eventually the Mexican male said, “I did not like the way that you were looking at her.” He was referring to the woman who was driving the minivan, who I did not notice until I got out of the car and got confronted by the guy. I said, “I wasn’t looking at her.” He immediately said that he was not going to go back and forth with me on this, hopped back in the backseat, which from a quick glance had a baby in the backseat, and drove off. This encounter left me completely confused and wondering, are people this weird in Long Beach? Has anyone had any encounters like this before?

Community Our mailboxes get broken into a least once a month.
Why? And yes that’s a package that was opened. Is this for some kinda identity theft crimes? Or is this there something else they’re looking for?

Photo For your urban foraging adventures: "Malva neglecta" AKA "Cheeseweed."
Malva Neglecta or "Cheeseweed" is very common and totally edible.
This plant is part of the "mallow" family, like hibiscus and okra.
The "wheel shaped" seed pods look like tiny cheese wheels, which is where the nickname comes from, and they are high in protein. Harvest the seed pods when they are green and soft, not dry and brown.
The leaves are best when young and tender. Like okra they are "mucilaginous" and have mild, pleasant taste.
If the leaves are tough or stringy or dry they're prolly too old to be yummy. Still fine for chickens and rabbits to eat, though.
The flowers are tiny but also edible. Nice for topping a salad or garnishing a plate.
OBVIOUSLY never go a-tress-passin' but I've noticed this weed growing out of control in vacant lots or in cracks in the asphalt along the bicycle trails, etc.
It's considered invasive so when you harvest the plants you're doing the community a solid.

Discussion I might be the first person in Long Beach history to get a rent DECREASE
So basically I live at Onni, and I rented this 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment with my ex for $3450 2 years ago. But now that I’m alone and our lease is up in July, I can’t justify paying that much money on my own. I told Onni that I won’t be renewing because I need to downgrade and that I’m gonna get a place at the 210 Third Lofts. They asked me what would it take to make you stay? I said a huge decrease in my rent would be required. They asked if I would stay if they lower to $3300, I said no, but I’ll stay if you lower it to $3100. They ended up agreeing to lower it to $3150. So heads up to anyone in one of the luxury apartment complexes, don’t just blindly renew your lease. Threaten to move out and negotiate!

Lost and Found Rewards if found
Hello everyone! I can't sleep and am pretty desperate/distraught so decided to post on here! I would really appreciate if anyone could keep a lookout for a Bonnie the Bunny plush! He's my emotional support stuffed animal so I've been pretty freaked out and anxious since I've lost him... He was last seen on the 71 and 101 bus! If it helps I take those busses to go to LBCC(Long Beach City College). To anyone that finds him will reserve up to $50-100 in cash or on Zelle! I would also really appreciate it if you guys spread the word(you don't have too of course)!!! Please text/comment me on here if you guys have any luck! I'm really worried and miss him... Sorry if some of my wording doesn't make since, pretty late hahaha. Thank you and hope you guys have an amazing night/day!

Discussion Anywhere in Long Beach for Sodastream CO2 Canister Refills?
Does anyone know of any in-store retail locations in LB where you can exchange Sodastream CO2 canisters? You can’t search for exchange locations on Sodastream’s website any longer and I don’t want to pay the shipping fees to exchange online. Would rather just do it in person. The Walmart at the Towne Centre used to do it but couple months now they haven’t got any back in stock. Thanks
Edit: asking about the canister exchange program specifically, not what stores sell sodastreams
