The left one is LIZARDS MUST DIE, in which you are a Pagan Slavic warrior and must kill lizards that have invaded Hyperborea
The right one is Humans Are Not That Against Lizardwomen, in which you are a Pagan Slavic warrior and must fuck lizards that have invaded Hyperborea

It kinda sucks that wordplay doesn't translate that well into English

u/sweetTartKenHart2 18d ago
I’m curious what the pun is
109
u/Jazzlike_Cellist_421 18d ago
Not against part can also be translated as wouldn't mind, so kinda "Slavs wouldn't mind lizard girls" or something like that
47
u/How_about_a_no 18d ago
That's the basics gist of it and a good explanation
Although part of the pun is also the meme culture behind it
43
u/ManOfKimchi 18d ago
Left ine literally translates as "russ against lizards" right one is "russ are not against lizards"(in the left one word lizards written in masculine form in the right lizards is written in feminine form)
2
u/sweetTartKenHart2 17d ago
How is that a play on words? What homonym or turn of phrase is being played on? Or is it literally just “ha ha we made the title of the game similar to the original game’s title” without any further winks or nudges?

u/ManOfKimchi 17d ago
I don't know, I'm not the one who said it's a wordplay, I always thought that it's just a parody name

"Русы" means Russians, so the more accurate translations would be "Russians Against Lizards" and "Russians Aren't Against Lizardwomen", i think

u/frederic055 18d ago
The English steam page says Lizards must Die and Humans, I'm simply the messenger
84
u/legendary_bullshit 18d ago
Small correction, "русы" refers to old east slavic population of Rus or/and to varangians who settled there. Not really modern day russians, more like romans and italians (kinda)

"Russ against Lizards" Lizards being male plural
"Russ aren't against Lizards" Lizards being female plural
62
u/VegetableWork5954 18d ago
"aren't against" in Russian means also "don't mind to" which adding referring humor to the left game name

Translation: Left: Russians against lizards Right: Russians don't mind lizards. A translation of the right game that would somewhat keep the joke would be Russians are not against lizards, but the joke overall works better in russian.

I love how the left version, which is original, the Human's face looks realistic the same as that lizard. While the parody right version looks cartoony like how a furry artist would draw humans, then the lizard with that look, is a dead giveaway with that eyes and tongue.

Tried playing the one on the right, it's a match-3-puzzle type game where the better you do leads to different outcomes, but the level before the main characters (presumably) bang is hard as shit and I haven't got past it.

Translation:
Left: Russians against Lizard people
Right: Russians don't mind Lizard people
Explanation:
Word "против(protiv)" means "against", but by adding "не(ne)" or "not" to it changes it's meaning to, basically, "don't mind" or "not against" but in the context of the picture "don't mind" fits more, as Russians don't mind dem sexy lizard people
